What is the relationship between COPD and anaemia?

I hope I will stop posting so frequently once I have a formal diagnosis. However, currently, whilst I wait for tests, I have found myself wondering about all sorts of things.

First of all, I have anaemia which I had assumed was the result of my restrictive diet. However, I take an iron pill daily and I have stepped up on more iron rich food, but iron levels are still low. I was wondering if whatever is causing the hyperinflated lungs may be causing the anaemia.

Secondly, the breathlessness is pretty constant (I have an inhaler if it gets too bad), but it does not seem to be triggered by exercise. I still swim and ride a bike, but going up the stairs, carrying shopping and going to bed seem to make the shortness of breath mush worse. I don't understand this pattern,. I would have thought aerobic exercise would have made the breathlessness worse.

I know I am overthinking things, and I suppose I just want to know what is causing the symptoms: asthma, anaemia, COPD or something unrelated.

Thanks for reading.

Hi. Not sure if this is relevant for you. In my fertile years I often bordered on anaemia despite a good diet, so much so that sometimes I was unable to give blood as a blood donor. I find Floradix with iron is the best supplement to take to address that: much more expensive than iron tablets, but the iron is much more bio-available.

Juat a thought, have you had a test for b12, sometimes our bodies dont absorb this and needs to be injected, two of my sisters suffered with tiredness and looked into iron supplements until the doctor finally tested for b12 and they were both put into injections. I do wonder why our gp's dont test for this more often x
