Hi

Has anybody with bronchiectisis been diagnosed with NTM

if so what were the symptoms like and what treatment did you receive

Hi Clarice This showed up in my sputum about 20 years ago . The specialist decided to monitor me for few months & lucky for me I didn’t need the heavy antibiotic treatment .

I’ve produced NTM a couple of times in samples.Been under hospital care for roughly eight years.

Lifelong asthmatic with Bronc type remodelling.

Started getting nodules a couple of years ago, a sign of chronic infection, which was treated as ABPA.

Didn’t really respond to treatment for ABPA.

Nodules are now Very infected and treatment for NTM has been approved, without Bronchoscopy.

Add COVID in to the mix, and my samples have been in the lab for over a month waiting for sensitivity testing, which will target the bacteria with the correct antibiotic.

My hope is that this bug is what has been making me unwell all these years, I’m very positive and grateful it is one of the few lung ailments that can be treated completely.

Being an asthmatic, my symptoms are worsening poorly controlled asthma.

Constant chest infections, which initially respond to antibiotics, and then return within weeks.

Thanks I'm going for a bronchoscopy in the next few weeks just hope I can get sorted feeling rough at the moment flu like symptoms and no energy at all

I was in your shoes 12 months ago, lung infection that wouldn’t go. After ct scan and broncostomy found cavities on each lungInitially diagnosed with TB then after two weeks of treatment changed their minds to the micro bacterial infection M.chimera. This requires 2 years treatment with rifampicin, ethambutol, isoniazid and ciprofloxacin

The first six months I become very poorly I could barely walk was that breathless.

However in the last month I have started to improve. The medication is tough but there is light eventually
