My daughter's friend asked if my daughter could help her re-home two cats. Sadly their owner was very ill from cancer and her friend was trying to help him sort various problems out with both animals and the house. My daughter after ringing many places found a shelter to take them. Within the hour her friend rang to say there was 3 cats. My daughter again rang the shelter and happily they agreed to take the third.
Next day my daughter and I set out with blankets and cat carriers to take the cats to the shelter. On arrival her friend was very upset as when she was clearing a bedroom she found four kittens. So 2 cats had now turned into 7!
I could not get in touch with the Shelter but due to the conditions within the house and worries about the condition of both the mother and the kittens I was not going to leave them there. So I said to my daughter we will take them. If the shelter cannot take them then we will take them home and take them to the vets and look after them until we can sort something out.
So off I went with six cats as the seventh could not be found. I arrived at the shelter and very sheepishly explained the situation . The woman just laughed and said not to worry. First she rang the vet as like me she was worried about the mother and kittens. Then she said these cats would find homes very quickly once fit they were all a grey colour I think some would call them blues.
The lady at the centre then asked about the cat we could not find and that she was worried that he would be in poor condition too. I said if we can catch will you take it. Yes was the reply. So went back to fetch the male. To cut a long story short four hours later we finally managed to get him in the carrier. Gaining a few wounds in the process.
As I was leaving my daughter's friend said only the dog to go now?????

Yes I know what you mean, a number of years ago I had a cat and when I tried to take in a stray cat (really pretty, all white) whilst I fell in love with it my cat did not unfortunately so I had to find it another home.
I cant help chuckling when coming to the end of the story Badbessie. Now there's a dog to sort out! However the kindness of your daughter and her friend speaks volumes. Thank goodness there are people who will go that extra mile to help animals in need. It will also be so reassuring for the cats owner who is so ill, to know the cats are in a safe place.A happy ending on this occasion.
Wow what a story and I am so glad you managed to rescue the cats and kittens. I would love one of them actually - would there be any chance do you know? When we are allowed out to play again I could come and fetch one if it's not too far.
We ended up with three cats when I brought one home from work (I was a social worker). Husband wasn't happy. However, our little tortoiseshell kitten charmed her way in and, despite getting regularly swiped at when she tried to suckle one of the other cats, she stayed and gave us 17 years of joy.
When I turned up with another kitten in a basket, my husband nearly keeled over in shock. 'No!' he said. 'Three at a time is more than enough!' Thankfully, I had anticipated his reaction and already had someone lined up to take the cat as she fostered for Cat's Protection.
I really wish I could have kept that one, though. It had been found in a cardboard box, tied up with string, under a bush. The person I took it from had found it while walking their dog. At the time they had a seriously ill child to care for so had neither the time nor the energy to do anything with it except take it home with them. Whoever was lucky enough to get it had a beauty! It's markings were lovely.
I'm a sucker for cats and if we lived nearer to you, I'd be there with my basket - and grumpy husband in tow! xx Moy
