I added to a n appeal to government about cash access to all by texting MP about being house bound as cev over covid and not being able to get cash as needed so he has added that as well .

We do all still need cash! We cannot let plastic take over.

I went to pay by plastic for something yesterday and was told WiFi had gone down so needed to pay with cash. A friend couldn't pay by card at the supermarket as, for some reason, it wasn't accepting Santander cards due to a technical issue. She had to leave her trolley of shopping and go home to get another means of payment.

In our town, many of the parking machines have gone over to phone payment or card payment, but we came accross one the other day that would only take cash - and we didn't have enough change to put in so had to go and find parking elsewhere.

We must have so many examples of why we need cash. How do we pay a neighbour for getting some shopping for us? How do we pay the window cleaner who has no card machine or the gardener or the cleaner?

There are just so many times we still need cash.

The point you've made, Jaybird, is highly valid and it's so good that you've joined in the appeal.

some body on here sent out A petition > was it litttlepom ? i really don't know but sent a message to MP explaining that while under covid restrictions I was confined to house with no carer and no cash to pay and only access to supermarket . I needed something not available from supermarket and the small independent company I tried to access did something suspicious and I stopped and then they retataliated by blocking my internet address completely ! I suppose most housebound people have to give their card number to another person they can trust but I had no one . N Wide bank then introduced a cash delivery during covid restrictions but stopped that this year when I asked again.

so told MP who has now told me that he has added that to the petition that is going forward. He is stressing the need for retaining these cash machines in all parts

of country . hope this is of some help.

Thank you Jaybird, for updating me on issues regarding cash machines, I really had no idea they are wanting to phase them out. That would be pretty devastating for a lot of people, especially the elderly population who depend on having cash for all sorts of reasons. Let us hope that your MP supports your concern. Yes. We have had our mobile bank reduced to once every 2 weeks from twice a week!!
