DINOWIG POWER Station, LLANBERIS

Reading about caves reminded me that about 15 years ago , with my late husband, we lead our motorcycle club through lovely scenery to this interesting power station built into an extended caves in mountain near Llanberis. There is a lake on top of mountain, and when demand for power suddenly increases the water taps are opened and gravity brings water down to generators. Usually happened in evening when people who had been watching popular TV program end put on kettles for cup of tea. Water is pumped back up to lake ready for next high demand. Jean x

Silly me, itS DINORWIG, don’t know how to correct!

Jean, on the far right of the REPLY and LIKE buttons is a "MORE" button, with an arrow pointing down to reveal a few more options, one of which is EDIT. Pressing the EDIT button will allow you to alter and amend any part of your post, or any part of any reply you make. I hope that helps. I googled Dinorwig Power Station and read there is/are 16K of tunnels beneath the mountain!

NB I sent you a private message re Italy. If you haven't seen it, you only need to press the DART/CHAT button at the top of the page. I have sent you PART 1 but will write PART 2 today.

Yes, did homework first, phoned and told that busy Sundays, so when part way there, and knowing how many of us, I phoned ahead and paid with credit card for reservations for 1 o’clock tickets. We had stopped for a drink etc, but the lads were bit slow, and stood around chatting outside, so I had to call out, come on we will be late! Someone answered “Yes Mom” and think I was known as that thereafter. Arranged lot of rides to great places, popular one was to highest waterfall in Wales, Pistyll Rhaeadr, with lovely gardens, views etc. Happy memories. Jean xx

I went with a local group, well worth tbe visit .did the same as you in mini bus through all the tunnels which opened up to this amazing space looking down from above seeing one solitary tiny man working among those engines who gave an idea of the true size of the space .

It was very big, went to machinery area by minibus, and cave area massive. Friend had told me about it, and made different sort of ride-out. “Mom”

Only rode a scooter and small 125 motorbike, not nearly fast enough for long journeys, used mostly for going to hospitals, quicker, and easier to park. Used to wait outside in my leathers, nurses could see me, called me in when Consultant ready to see me. Rode pillion on husbands bike, and he had route written out in clear plastic holder on his back that I could read and call out which way at junctions etc, also had pages out of maps so that if need be could change route. Liked taking picnic so that I didn’t have to go into public places as much as possible because of risk of infection. Went all over uk, northern France and southern Spain on bike. Happy Days, really miss them. Have you ever ridden, great sense of freedom but not so good now roads are so busy and polluted. Jean xxx

Sounds like great fun Jean, you will have so many happy memories of your days travelling on a motorbike. I loved the part where you recall being the navigator and had the map or route on husbands back!! As you say Happy Days. Take care. Carol xxx 😊❤️

Sometimes on our ride outs we would be in lot of traffic, couldn’t always keep in touch, so I carried in my bag round my waist a mirror to look behind. By holding up it high as possible could then see if other bikes were still with us, and how far behind. This caused few comments, “she’s trying to dazzle us!” It was surprising that some people who had lived in Midlands all their lives, hadn’t ever been to some of famous places, such as Ironbridge Gorge, World Heritage site. The road runs along the river Severn for few miles, always interesting to see changing scenery. On way home from a longer ride, we chose to come that way, stop for ice cream etc, and then learnt that though most knew it well few had never been before, but had ridden all over Uk and continent. Strange!

I like the way you kept your eye on the cavalcade behind with a mirror!! Great days out in the open roads with friends xxx 😊

I would feel claustrophobic, knowing there was all that weight of water overhead.

Me too. We once stayed in a hotel in Spain with a rooftop swimming pool and I was glad that our room wasn't under that!

Sounds like a good place to visit. I always wanted a rev and go bike but never got to ride on one, perhaps as well I would probably have killed myself x
