My poor boy was attacked by a border collie it happened on Thursday this week ...
I must say firstly Stans absolutely fine if a bit shaken and confidence we have built with him to become independent has slightly been dented ...
We were coming to the end of a group walk I had 4 dogs on lead and Stan was running towards me to get his on ..
We had come to a small crossroads on the heath which is built up with gorse and bushes Stan was about 12 ft away and in an instant a pony came bolting round the corner in between us the pony was being chased down by a border collie who was ready to bite ... the pony once on the open grass heath took off and the collie turned its attention on my boy ... Stan was just in the way .. the collie knocked him to the ground and started to rough him over my husband ran over and got the collie off Stan who then ran to me ...
I dropped the leads I was holding and stood on them to keep my dogs secure while I checked Stan over my husband had this collie by the collar ... the owner watched the whole thing happen and did nothing absolutely nothing ...
The dogs I had on lead were completely stressed as seeing their buddy attacked and were wanting to set on the collie..if they had been loose I dread to think ...
On checking Stan he had no wounds or marks anywhere... I stood to see the owner just standing watching me ...
I have to add I have saw this woman before letting her dog before chase ponies but she was always in the distance and having a word with her regarding this situation was always on my mind ...
My husband came over to me and took the dogs off me I had so I could get Stans lead on ...
This woman still standing there watching she then asked if Stan was okay and which way we were going so she could continue her walk...that's when I went at her telling her I had witnessed her and her dogs actions several times ...she then replied she has been asking the dog to stop โ๏ธ
Ask a dog to stop !!!
My blood pressure had risen a lot at this point I won't repeat what I said to her but she felt my wrath ๐
She has been reported to the dog warden the verderers who own some ponies the police...all I have is a description of her and the dog no name no car reg or description...
I'm just so very sad that Stan was caught in the chase ๐ he's been very clingy to me which is understandable and absolutely fine I love the boy who stole my ๐...
Hi Black it'd 9, I'm so sorry Stanley and that poor pony had to go through that, and you and your husband and others had to see this happen. I'm pleased Stanley and the pony are alright. This woman really needs stopping. Have a good day and take care ๐ Bernadette and Jack ๐ xxxxxx ๐น
Oh my goodness! How unbelievably dreadful for Stanley and you. Iโm pleased your husband was there to help. It makes my blood boil to hear of people like that dreadful woman. Her dog needs muzzling and should be on a lead as it clearly canโt be trusted. Iโm glad it didnโt get the poor pony and the other dogs didnโt get to it but Iโm so angry at that stupid, ignorant woman. I hope sheโs caught and the dog is taken off her. She doesnโt deserve to keep animals.
Well done telling her what you thought. Hoping Stanley will be ok bless him. Such a lovely boy. Xxx๐๐๐๐โค๏ธ
How awful Blackbird and poor Stan. I'm glad he is okay. Its a shame people like her are allowed to own a dog. Its nit the dogs fault its the owners. If she cannot control the dog she should have it on a lead.
Take a video if you see her and dog again and let authoities have it.
How awful. You will see her again so take a photo of her and her dog. I'm afraid that when we are in the middle of these horrible situations we often forget to take a photo.

Thanks LP I have tried to video her on previous occasion but she was too far in the distance and Thursdays experience just reminded me how stupid some ppl are ๐๐
So sorry to hear this. Poor Stan. So glad you gave her a piece of your mind and that she has been reported.
I hate bad owners. My late Muffin, a rough haired mix, mainly Jack Russel was attacked. The dog appeared to be a play dog chasing a frisby. Suddenly for no apparent reason he ran a ross the field and attacked Muff. The woam was apologetic and said he had never done it before. In the e ening I noticed a huge patch of pink on Muffs white hair and bite marks in his collar. Raced him to the shoer and opened the small wound and washed it thoroughly.
After that I saw this dog atta k twice more and whe I got to the owners they told me she had said the same to them. Grrr.
I hope Stan and yourselves get over this and the owner is brought to book.
๐ even Bonnie is shocked and sheโs been in a few scrapes ๐ป
Poor Stan, glad he wasn't physically hurt. I could hardly believe that behaviour from a border collie and hardly believe that it's owner just stood there. I do hope you having reported her makes a difference
What a dreadful event.poor Stanley ๐.I can imagine how u felt.gd job hubby was with you. You've done right to report her.her dog should've been on a lead! Not on,chasing ponies thn attacking Stanley.
I feel upset for you BB.it wouldve been an awful shock for u,hubby, stanley& dogs.hope U r okay.
Thankyou Pat we are all fine now .. its a worry that people disregard the livestock in the manner she was ..Collie instinct to herd but not attack ponies with the intention to bite and the owner to watch ๐
I'm glad yr ok.i used to have a border collie+ whn trained properly, theyre obedient dogs.thats why farmers use thm.shes obviously an irresponsible owner.i hope u see her to get a photo xxx
That was an unprovoked attack on poor Stan and the pony, proving the offending dog should always be kept on a lead at all times. She obviously has no control over her dog and one day it's going to do real damage, thankfully Stan was okay but shaken. I can imagine your dander would be up BB, hope your blood pressure has dropped back to normal? Take care and hug for Stan ๐โ๐ฆบ๐โ๐ฆบ๐โ๐ฆบ
Ah thankyou Holly the old man's absolutely fine this morning seems a bit brighter...Had his breakfast his garden ritual and came straight back up to bed for an extra hour or four ๐ด
His hug book is so full but I never tire of them ๐
So sorry to hear this Bb9. Bloody selfish dog owners , no wonder you had a go. I would have too. A few years ago on Wimbledon Common I witnessed 3 staffies go for a rider on a horse, 2 male owners were laughing. The rider was thrown, I went to help her. The horse had bolted chased by the dogs right over the Common on to the 6 lane A3. At this point the horse was seen by dozens terrorised, bleeding and one dog still hanging off him. Horrendous, 2 dogs were destroyed but I've no idea what happened to the poor horse. I hope Stanley recovers well, I'm sure he will with all the tlc you've been giving him. รรร
She should not have her dog off lead it is very obvious the dog has been allowed to run amok and cause distress to the ponies and other dogs. I cannot believe she just stood there . Obviously feels no responsibility whatsoever . This is infuriating, poor Stanley. Thank goodness you weren't on your own. I'm so sorry BB. I hope she now takes heed. xx ๐
I'm hoping she heard what I screamed at her and takes heed I'm on a local watts app group with around 30 other dog walkers and they are all on the look out now...My husband is always with me on walks very rare he isn't...
The police are very interested in having a chat with me so I'm wondering if she's been reported before ๐
Border Collies are such lovely dogs, but quite high strung. I don't blame the dog, the owner however...... ๐ Take care BB and do let us know what happens. A little cuddle for poor Stan. xx ๐
I feel your wrath and I can empathise with you. Poor Stan. It does knock them for six when theyโve been attacked. My Sam GSD big as he was got attacked twice. Gypsy lads threw their dog on him once and the worse time I was talking to friends outside their house and Sam was sat like a good boy. A gate opened and out ran a dog It immediately launched itself on Sam. It wasnโt wearing a collar and was hard to pull it off. My friends husband and I pulled it off a few times for it to launch itself on again. I reported it to the police who came to see me and the owners of said dog but nothing much done. Poor Sam was so shaken and guess what no apologies from the owners or asking how Sam was
I hope Stan gets over it. What a stupid person to have a dog off lead that worries the ponies. There was something on tv recently about dog attacks on the New Forest ponies Cuddles to Stan and hugs to yourself bb9. Itโs so upsetting ๐ค๐ค๐ค
Hi lovley thankyou ..What a disgusting attack on your dog a horrible situation to be in ... I adore German shepherds got 5 on my books and like you say as big as they are they are such beautiful souls..
I feel more like myself today and Stans hopefully got no lasting damage he seems his little perky self today ...
What an appalling incident! Totally wrong approach to dog handling by that woman. You did right to report her, and I hope the authorities track her down and stop her.
When I had an aggressive dog, I took her to training classes so that she learned to obey me and I learned how best to handle her. She wore a special harness when out and about on a lead, which snapped her mouth shut if she lunged. I only let her off the lead when no other dogs were around and it was safe to do so, and that wasn't very often.Cassie was my guard dog when I lived in country places, so we did not train that protective streak out of her, just made sure we could control her.
Oh bb that is so upsetting for you all . Poor Stanley . I hope the authorities can trace her and take action . What would she have done if a child had been involved .Collie dogs are usually well behaved friendly dogs , not aggressive, but dogs do need discipline to feel secure and happy.
This one needs a better owner . I hope Stan is ok now.
Poor Stan. I hope he gets over his trauma soon. Makes my blood boil when people who canโt control their dogs let them off the lead to cause distress. ๐ก๐คฌThereโs so many more dogs around nowadays and so many of their humans have no idea how to behave.
Omg poor Stan and horse. It makes you wonder how many times this happens with stupid owners. I am sure Stan has had plenty of hugs but another one from me wont hurt. I do hope the police manage to track her down. Dread to think the damage a frightened horse with dog chasing could cause to a person , at least everybody was ok x
I'm so angry at her to think it's okay .. Stan has been given extra cuddles he's been on his walks today but stayed very close to my legs so his confidence isn't great ๐๐ค
I dont blame you being angry, I would be too. His confidence will come back Im sure but perhaps will make him a little more cautious. I do hope the police can track her down she needs a good talking too x
I absolutely feel for you and Stan. My little Pippa was attacked by a dog in our local park, I thought it was going to kill her, it has taken us years to build her confidence up again. We go to New forest couple of times a year and we never take our dogs off the lead if a pony is around, I can't believe people let their dogs chase them, it's horrendous.
Hello Blackbird9, that was not a very nice happening for you , the dogs and others there. This women needs dealing with is there no law the police can use? Hope your next walk is much more peaceful and pleasant. Good to hear stanley is recovering. Hope your blood pressure is back to normal toox
Poor old Stan I am pleased he is ok, even if a little shaken. Are you on any kind of local social media? Perhaps if others have witnessed this ill behaved woman and her dog (who probably knows no better!) you could get together about it or even come up with a name? There are some people who really should not have dogs. Hug for Stan xx
Many thanks Leo it's been reported and social network isn't really a place to advertise it as she could be local ...I don't want her to see a post otherwise we might not see her again in that area Stans happy for all the cuddles ๐๐
Dogs chasing sheep, ponies or whatevere are a nuisance and the owners often downright arrogant, not a good combination. We have 2 mini wire dachs, means that wife has to go out for walks, but they are on leads as they will certainly chase anything, including big dogs. Hope that someone can identify the owner as it is an offence, and should be pursued if repeated.
have a good day wherever you are and hope the sun is starting to warm everyone up.
That's dreadful. I hope Stanley's feeling bit better now and getting some of his confidence back (also hope the pony is ok). Such a shock for both of you. Can't believe that woman just standing watching her dog terrorise and attack other animals. I sincerely hope your actions will help others to stop her; she shouldn't be allowed to own a dog if she can't be responsible for it and take necessary precautions. She and the dog need training IF she should be allowed to keep the dog.
It's incredibly stupid of her to let her dog give chase ...It will be dealt with once she's found I'm on the look out now thankyou for your kindness ๐ ๐
If female the pony may be pregnant, let's hope there are no repercussions to this horrible incident for the pony! So sorry for Stan, my border collie sends his apologies on behalf of border collies everywhere. He himself has been attacked no less than three times while he was on a lead, by other off lead dogs. You never know when such an incident will happen as a "one off," but clearly the person NOT in control of that particular dog must know by now that she needs to take responsibility and get the dog trained. Until then it must be kept on a lead. Such a shame that one of the most trainable, willing to please dogs should be allowed to run riot.
She wasn't pregnant most of them that are pregnant at this point in time are very heavy with foals ..And tell your boy he's no need to apologise I walk 3 collies none of them with malice or aggression in them they are a beautiful breed when in the right hands ๐
So sorry Stan had to go through that and Iโm sure you were very shaken too ๐ฅฒ This just goes to show that if your dogs donโt respond immediately to recall they should always be on a lead My dogs are stubborn and I know wouldnโt come back in certain circumstances so they are only ever off lead in our own garden even though they are not at all aggressive . Iโve had a few nasty experiences with dogs whoโve not been under control and I know how unnerving it is so I hope you are both not too shaken x
I hope you and Stan are back to your usual sunny selves. Not to mention your husband, the pony and the other dogs. Trust that this lady will soon be spotted and brought to book. The dog really needs a new owner. xxx
I feel so sorry for you, your husband ,Stan and the pony. That women should not have a dog because clearly she does not recognize what it means to be a responsible dog owner. My dear lab Turner , who is heaven now, was attacked by a dog as they met on a walk after the other dogs owner said her dog was friendly. We did not notice his wounds till after the dog and it's owner were long gone. We were walking near a marina and apparently they boarded a boat. So poor Gus had to go to the vet and get a rabies vaccination and other shots to prevent an infection and not to mention the trauma the the dog goes through. I am so happy Stan is alright ... I am sure he has been traumatize and will remain close to you for some time. Hope you can locate that woman๐คจ
Iโm sorry to hear about poor old Stan the man, but Iโm glad heโs ok. Itโs so irresponsible, to put it very mildly and politely, of people to not have their dogs under control. A few months ago a tourist had 2 big dogs not on the lead, and they went hurtling into my sheeps field. Thankfully my sheep were right at the bottom of the field and didnโt even notice. The woman was way back, screaming at the dogs who took absolutely no notice of her. They did eventually go back to her. She said theyโre just excited. That is not an excuse or an apology. The dogs were obviously not trained or under control at all. I was very angry about it as it could have been quite different if my sheep hadnโt been at the bottom of the field.
So glad Stan is okay! What a horrible thing to happen and what kind of a moron lets their dog loose knowing it chases the ponies? Irresponsible! I hope she is identified and stopped.
Hello Bb, How is Stanley after that dreadful experience? It upset me greatly reading your email. From the time you rescued him a year ago I enjoyed hearing how he progressed to being a well loved, happy and confident animal. I loved seeing the photos showing how happy he had become. Yes his confidence will have been knocked no doubt and you too will also be very wary in the future. However, this won't deter your spirit I know and you will be hell bent on continuing walking the dogs and helping Stan regain his trust and confidence. Keep going BB, its people like you who make a difference to the lives of animals. Sending you my heartfelt best wishes.Xxx
