I'm Jogging and back at work after recovering from serious Covid Pneumonia

Just another update. I'm now almost 5 months into my recovery from being hospitalised with covid pneumonia.

I cannot believe the week i've had. I still have a little sleep anxiety, and trouble sleeping, yet when I wake up I feel rested, so must be getting some sleep, or enough sleep!

Stairs are not an issue for me now, and I can manage them easily, plus when a food delivery comes, I can manage the bags up the stairs, and no longer get out of breath.

I have even started some light jogging, just a few minutes at a time, say over 300m, but I'm jogging and not really gasping for breath afterwards. I'm able to walk and catch my breath.

I do still have strange muscle weakness in my legs, it comes and goes, but seems to be diminishing as my legs get stronger.

I'm growing in confidence, and appetite!!!

Seems that going to bed at 6pm and chilling for 3 hours is starting to become unnecessary. I suspect my issues getting to sleep are to do with the fact that i'm not really tired at 9pm, and should try to go to sleep later. Sometimes I nod off early, but I was always a night owl before all this.

I've completed my first week back at work too, and it has not had a significant impact on me. I have reduced my exercise somewhat, with shorter, but more brisk walks. I've also ensured that I have a rest day too.

In just 3 weeks, since my last post, further improvements, I suspect my growing confidence is quelling my anxiety!

I can now see myself running again by the summer. I'm going to beat this post viral fatigue! One small step at a time!

Good to hear things are moving in the right direction.If you want to develop your running it might be helpful to do “couch to 5k”?? I haven’t done it /wouldn’t be able to do it but heard great reports from people who have tried the programme.

I hope you continue to improve and are back to normality in the very near future.

Thanks, ironically, 2 years ago pretty much today, I embarked on couch to 5k! I'm a few months from that, bit can seem me starting it around easter maybe. It was couch to 5k that got me running 2 years ago, I could run 5k in 28mins!

I do have lung scaring, however the doctor at the hospital told me I had enough good lung tissue to get back to normal.

Despite what folks say, mind over matter is very important during recovery. The brain can literally create symptoms through fear. As I slowly healed, the fear reduced, I could do more, I had control of my life to an extent.

There is a way to go, however I can now, go down stairs when I wish, and sit in the sun. I still have to pace cleaning the house, and exercise, and rest is extremely important. Back in January, I was pushing a bit too hard. The exercise may have paid off, but I kept crashing. Now I have balanced the pacing and anxiety better, i'm had a week of ok sleep, been back at work and managed 6 days in a row feeling ok during the day.

I reckon in the following 3-5 months i'll be back to running and normal activities.
