hyperventilated lungs

I have been dignosed with Hyperventilated lungs but have been given no info. I am exhausted most of the time and cannot walk more than 100 metres without having to rest. Can anyone tell me if this is normal. Is there any medication for this condition? I use Clenil Modulite inhaler 200mg. The waiting time for specialist is fortysix weeks!!!

Hi, I saw your post on COPD friends and can't really add anything to the reply you got from R2B_John who gave a good explanation. The condition will cause breathlessness. You didn't say how long you have been using the clenil but it can take several weeks to feel the benefit of an inhaler. If you have been using it for a while and feel it isn't helping, let your doctor know. There are many other inhalers which may be more beneficial. Do keep trying to exercise, including walking, even if you have to keep stopping for a rest

It may also be worth asking your doctor to refer you for pulmonary rehab which is a course for people with lung disease designed to give you an exercise programme and education session on how to cope with lung disease. It may also help to phone the BLF helpline to chat with one of their nurses. The BLF also have many informative leaflets.

There has always been a long waiting list to see specialists in some areas (I waited 6 months in 2016) and the pandemic has increased this.

Thank you so much for your nice email. I have contacted the BLF and will take to someone tomorrow. I have been on Clenil Modulite 200 for several weeks now. But I am talking to the doctor tomorrow and see what she advises. Thanks.

46 weeks! Nearly a year, I very much hope an appointment comes up sooner than that. I'm afraid I know nothing about hyperinflation lungs however, to the right (or scroll down on a phone I think) in 'Related Posts' you'll see some older posts with their replies which could offer more information. Good luck Eastbourne11

Hi Eastbourne,

I have hyperinflated lungs.

Yes, they do cause breathlessness and can make it difficult to eat. Some foods are worse than other as they tend to produce more gas - leeks etc. They can also make you feel panicked - as you hyper ventilate, which causes more breathlessness - vicious cycle.

It would be good if you can be taught some breathing techniques - hope you get some help soon.

Would be very interested to know how you get on.

You could try a singing for lung health group. The British Lung Foundation website has a page where you can find your local group.
