Someone has told me that icecream is bad for C.O.P.D .I hope this is not true.
Does anybody know if this is true?

I don’t know about copd but it triggers my asthma. I think it is to do with the coldness of it.
Who told you this? in a recent post you said that you had been eating ice cream and thought that it had helped your breathing. I have very severe COPD and eating ice cream has never caused me a problem but others may find it a problem.
If it is then i imagine a good many of us on the site are eating our way to a slow but luxurious death.Whoever told you that is plain bonkers, though like everything else moderation is the key word.
🙃😸🍦
As said by CDPO16 you have posted about this before. Not sure why this is such an issue to you? Individual people often have different triggers. You feel ice cream helps you so what does it matter what other people think? For them it might be a trigger which is why they saying ice cream is bad for COPD. Some people react badly to dairy products because it causes (for them more mucus) Others don’t have difficulty with dairy.
I eat ice cream with no issues and intend to continue.
Its an issue because i posted it before saying it made me feel better ., then im told its not good for you. I thought i would better mention it
I stand by my comments. Some things trigger some people other things don’t. Certainly don’t think you should worry about 1 person saying something.
People tried to reassure you last time. I hope this time you feel reassured but at end of day is only ice cream and is totally up to you whether or not you eat it!
If you put in your search engine . copd icecream you will see i t does have its disadvantages, however i am resuming my icecream taking
Yes because it is dairy (as I said previously) and I have googled it! Some people with COPD have issues with dairy others don’t….. which is what I have said all along. IF you are concerned look at dairy free ice cream.
Calm down Bevvy i get it
I don’t know what your problem with me is. I have tried to be sympathetic and logical to your posts. I have given you reasons for my thoughts.I am offended by being told to “calm down”
Don’t worry I won’t respond to anymore of your posts.
Pete sometimes coughs when eating ice cream but I feel that’s because it’s cold. He enjoys it though and will continue to eat it, as should you. Xxx
Do you value their opinion? So much that you would give up an occasional ice cream ? No of course not. Go on Enjoy it .
For some, dairy products trigger mucous production. For me it’s a quality of life issue. Ice cream makes for some happy experiences I still eat it when I want, just not every day.
Yes, that's been my experience, but I simply reduced dairy products rather than eliminating them. I also have IBS, so I thought it might help that too, but the jury's out on that one! However it did lead me to try Swedish Glace ice cream, which is soya based but I actually quite like it, despite having a slight intolerance of soy.
I love ice cream and eat it regularly. The only thing that happens is that the coldness can trigger my asthma and copd and start me coughing. I have never heard it's bad though for any other reasons than the usual.
I reckon not eating enough ice cream is bad for my COPD and for the rest of me. 🍦🍦🍦🍦
I’m not sure about COPD but it does trigger my asthma…like Troilus I would say it’s the coldness! However, if you have no problems then have it and enjoy it!
I have never been told not to eat ice cream. If it makes you happy and you have no ill effects from it carry on I say, as long as you aren't eating it by the gallon 😅!! Some people just love to rain on our parade. Filter information that makes sense and discard information that doesn't. xx 😊👋
It is the sugar that is the problem with ice cream. It is worth looking into.
Hello good morning robotman I suffer from bronchiectasis and they say coffee is bad for me but I still drink it but cut down a lot. Its not as if you eat lots of ice cream but I know the cold does get to us
Good morning your up early . We are doomed to a life of moderation, perhaps not a bad thing but not welcome. Thanks for replying.
Anyone who is allergic to dairy could always eat sorbet- still full of sugar though.
Good solution. I think eating sugar is just fine. Sorbet is a very simple food - no emulsifiers or gums which are in my view far worse than sugar.Eating sugar in copious amounts would be not great......
According to all my replies i needn't worry about ice cream. therfore will use in moderation .
Thanks for replying
Haagen daz vanilla is a very simple unadulterated recipie. If the dairy doesn't upset the lungs, that's what I would choose.
In my process of finding the best way to manage the condition, foods have been an important part.
Hopefully you will not have them but I know copd is also bad as our dad suffers from it. Take care and have a nice weekend
I love ice cream and eat it often.Another secret pleasure is a small tot of whiskey, especially at bed time. I don't ever intend to stop enjoying my favourite treats, us lung sufferers have enough to make us miserable! Re coffee,I read a day or two ago that coffee every day is the way to a long and healthy life!!.
There are a number of foods that do not help COPD and are best avoided. See verywellhealth.com/foods-th...
I avoid eating large meals .
I think, as with most things, what suits one won't suit another even if they have the same disease but it makes sense to avoid something if it doesn't agree with you.
It's certainly true that a large meal can have an adverse effect on breathing. I can't eat as much as I used to be able to.
I don't have the appetite i used to have. Probably a good thing seeing i don't exercise myself due to COPD
I try to do some exercise but it isn't easy some days. I do think that it helps to try to stop muscles wasting too much as poor muscle strength increases breathlessness when trying to do anything and it becomes a vicious circle.
I have recently bought an exrcise bike and when my current spasm goes away i intend using it. when i first got it ,i had a few goes and i think it might be the answer. Have a look online they go from
£65 .oo upwards .
No it's not i eat Mackies ice cream all the time. And the reason why is i had a bad chest for a long time and my daughter got me an ice cream from Mac dons and it give me chest freeze and after that my bad soar chest had gone so now eat it all the time.
Not bad for you in small portions, however I find it irritates the cough as does cold weather.
My main issue is Idiopathic-pulmonary Fibrosis, but I have read repeatedly that ice cream creates more mucus.
I cant eat dairy products as it makes me cough. I avoid biscuits milky drinks as it makes my coughing worse
We are all different if you eat icecream and dont notice any changes to your breathing then its safe to eat same as anything elce
