Does anyone here have any experience with pleurisy? I am a non-smoker and my doctor diagnosed me with this as part of a virus- not COVID- was tested and vaccinated. Thank you!

Sadly I have had pleurisy several times. Is a horrible illness. My best advice is to take your meds including antibiotics, possibly steroids if prescribed and any painkillers gp has suggested. It may take several weeks to get better and is important you listen to your body and rest. If no better at end of prescribed medications then VERY important you contact gp who may prescribe more meds. It would not be unusual to require more than one course of medications.Wish you better soon.

Thanks for your response. It was very helpful. I think I might have been taken off steroids too soon, and I am going to contact my primary care physician again. I think I have pushed myself a bit hard and gone back to work too soon. I am going to dial it down. Thanks again

If you are on steroids, your GP should give you a slip of paper, like an exemption badge, to carry. This informs the medical emergency staff that you are on steroids, as the meds they can give will be different if you are on them...Pleurisy is nasty, feels like yer lungs are getting sandpapered ! Keep up with the meds, and slow down a little eh !!

Thank you for your informative reply! I will ask my doctor about the sheet of paper; that’s a really good idea! And I need to slow down! I’ve been told that this illness can last for weeks 😞

Hi kittykat55,I had pleurisy with pneumonia and ended up in hospital borderline sepsis it was very painful and took me quite a long time to recover, the pain in my body was like nothing else I have had before and never want it again.I had to go on a Greek cruise to recover which was the best thing .I hope you feel better soon.

Oh my goodness! That is terrifying! Glad you pulled through okay! Yes, the pain is not understood by people who have not had this. My lungs feel raw, and it is worse in my back area. Thanks again ❤️

Get plenty of rest and fluids. Take the full course of abs and pred if prescribed and go back to GP if not cleared afterwards.
