Hi just wondering how people are feeling this week with covid numbers rising and at the moment no action being taken despite calls from health sector. I have COPD and becoming concerned over the latest news

I feel very similar to how I did in Feb 2020 when my instinct made me withdraw from socialising and my job as a guide at Shakespeare’s Schoolroom a good month before the government decided to take action. I have withdrawn from a shift which I was supposed to do on Sunday next because I think it very unwise to be indoors with groups of visitors, many of whom are children who do not wear masks. Especially as I have not had the call for my booster. It is deeply frustrating but I was proved right the first time so I am following my gut feeling.

indeed I agree they are hesitating again . So foolish . vaccine car park opposite is full again today . all grey heads so boosters . I phoned 119 but told to wait . 6 months up and due nov 5th. but still wait. have appointment next fri at lung centre Wythenshawe and this is first time out except for dentist and optician in 18 months. I have become a hermit and I hate it.

I think the best thing to do is listen to your intuition and then do what's right for you.

Absolutely right.☺️

I have never really stopped shielding since March last year. When I have had to go out I have done so with extreme caution and will continue to do so. I am fortunate in that I am retired and I do feel for those who are working or still in education. We all have to be as careful as we can be to stay as safe as possible.

We’re taking things very carefully indeed Cak3y50, being careful not to go to busy places, to always wear a mask, use hand gel and stay socially distant. We’ve never stopped taking precautions and will continue to take care of ourselves. People have to be proactive especially when very vulnerable. There’s too much complacency I feel. Take care and stay safe. Xxx😘

I share your concerns, but have had to go for various hospital appointments (my husband's, not mine) and even into a supermarket once for something essential. I prefer to choose where I go and what risks I take, but I don't feel I can go back into total isolation or I will go bonkers. Just wish other people would be a bit more responsible.

I think we're probably all concerned. I let my guard down a bit at the weekend. I had my sister staying with me and it was my birthday. This morning my daughter tested positive for covid, so now have an anxious wait to see if anyone else succumbs. No more jaunts for me, not worth the worry.

Thankyou so far, so good !

Many have become so used to the nanny state that they seem unable to do anything unless they are told. Most on here are old enough to remember when it wasn't so and after weighing up the options will do what is best for them and those around them.

Watching the new and listening to people being interviewed saying mask wearing should be reintroduced. Like uou I dont understand why people cant just take responsibility and not wait to be told. I live in Scotland mask wearing is still required , last week was in England and noticed a big difference. People seem to want spoon . Also notice that a great deal of shops have removed cleaning stationd at the entrances.

in reply toteddyd

Masks are still mandated in indoor places as well here in Wales.

The cases are predicted to rise to 100,000 a day within a few weeks. Basically I am keeping to my mask wearing, hand washing etc routine and limiting social contact. To be honest I believe the government will be forced to take action soon. If not to protect the vulnerable then at least to keep the NHS running. The big unknown at present is the Delta plus variant which is slowly increasing in numbers.

My husband and l have not really come out of shielding. Sadly l feel that us lunges are very much on our own and have to do our own risk assessments. During this pandemic l have felt like a totally devalued and non contributing member of society. Hard to take after over 30 years of working in the careing profession..Anyway have decided to stick around a little longer for spite so all precautions will be taken

I think Cak3y50 that the best thing to do is stay behind the protective shield. ONS survey reported that around 70% of younger people admitted to wearing masks! I have no idea where those people live but it’s certainly not around Lancashire that’s for sure. There is literally the odd one to be seen if your lucky. I for one do not and will not trust the public to do the right thing. All these voices asking for the mask mandate, can they not take the initiative and wear one without a minister having to tell them?

Hi Cat3y50, my advice would be if you can afford to shield then shield you must.
