Hope someone can help as l have started using spacer for new inhaler Trimbow. Followed all instructions carefully but never dries without residue and not supposed to clean it off. Can anyone help with this please?

This was discussed some time ago with regard to residue left by fostair. Many of us have tried a variety of cleaning techniques including rubbing the surface with a soft soapy cloth amongst other things, to no avail at all. When mine get very cloudy I buy another even though they are available on prescription.

Thank you for that. I suspected l might have to buy another. This is not good though, apart from plastic waste it is annoying. Did you add tiny bit of mild liquid detergent? I suspect without detergent would have same outcome. Thanks again for taking the time to reply.

I always add detergent and have tried vigorously scrubbing it too but no joy. Try getting a replacement on prescription before buying one.

Thank you. I will ask the GP pharmacist and explain cleaning problem.

I put a bid of non scented washing up liquid in mine with warm water. I block the holes with my hands and shake as if making a cocktail.Rinse with hot by putting it under the running tap, and then rinse with cold.

Leave to dry on radiator.

For stubborn residue I leave to soak in a dish of warm water and non scented washing up liquid.

I have tried that too with no avail and have put it in the dishwasher without effect too. I suspect that some inhalers are more prone to filming the spacer than others. My Ventolin doesn't result in the problem but my Fostair definitely does. Good to know that your technique works for you.

I always got mine on prescription , but decided to buy an anti static aero chamber after someone mentioned it here .Quite expensive , but so far so good .

Thank you have ordered an anti static.

I will try that. Thank you very much. Seems wasteful to have to change so often as advice is to clean weekly.

I used mine for several years before I realised I was meant to wash it. Shock horror? Maybe but Im still here. I used it with salbutamol not with a powder inhaler. I dont know anything about Trimbow.

Good you are still here. I don’t suppose it makes much difference but this is first time l have used an inhaler with a spacer. Think it’s better for me as my breathing is not great at the moment due to spending so much time indoors.

helo, i use spacer and trimbow, and have had same problem so after trying everthing i was told that somehow the seal had been broken, so bought a new onegood luckbriany

Wonder if it is the Trimbow breaking the seal. The mouthpiece is rectangular rather than oval. Have ordered an anti static one but if that’s the case that one will be the same. Thank you for your reply.

I was on Fostair and now Trimbow l couldn't get the residue off . When l go for my annual review the nurse orders me a new one on prescription

I’ve been on both and don’t recall a problem that I was aware of anyway! Perhaps mine were always a bit grubby looking and I didn’t notice. I used to always use a bottle cleaner with a dot of washing up liquid. I rarely use a spacer now only with the ventolin inhaler I need when very breathless otherwise I’m using the Ventolin 200 accuhalor.
