Emphysema and incense sticks
I think they would affect me, certainly air fresheners, diffusers, scented candles etc do. Sorry that you and your husband are having problems.
Yes the same with me
Thank you
So sorry Lina to read more about your marital problems, such a difficult situation for you. I hope you have some support from family and friends but we are here for you too if you need to 'off load'Best wishes Carole xx
Sorry to hear of your problems Lina but anything with a strong perfume would definitely affect Pete. We don’t use candles, room sprays etc. which is fine. Hope you can sort things out with your husband. Xxx💜
Hi Sassy59 can't sort the problems out with hubby as he's been seeing someone else to get his but of fun in Blackpool and we are from Rochdale probably 50 mules away he wants a divorce but thank you for reply regarding incense sticks xx
So sorry to hear that Lina. He could at least try and be a little more considerate perhaps. Thinking of you. Xx💜
So so sorry to learn of your troubles am thinking of you and holding you in my prayers.Scented candles ,Joss sticks ,perfume ,aftershave ,woodsmoke ,petrol fumes and cigarette smoke all affect me plus many household cleaners etc.
Hi Lina, sorry to hear your husband is being a b*&^%$d.Anything smelly like that or candles. aerosols some cleaning products etc. affect me really badly, so I never use them.
Please don't let yourself be treated badly, do you have friends or family for support?
Laurie xx
Yes my sister supports me and she said under no circumstances leave the house as he said a month ago he's fed up of me and wants me to leave I have also my neighbours that give me support thank you so much my sister in law is shocked that he's acting like that after 31 years marriage xx
I am pleased to hear you have support. Those closest to you know the situation and are in a better place to offer advice, but if you want a rant I am here Take care, Laurie xx
Chipping in again to say that I agree with your sister Lina. Stay put, he can go if he wants but you shouldn't leave your home. Such a pity that he has no understanding and empathy for your illness. I have stage 4 emphysema and it took my husband a long time to come to terms with it but we are ok now thankfully but I do feel for you.
Don’t let him bully you into leaving. You have rights and are entitled to at least half of everything. His unreasonable behaviour in burning these sticks when he knows that they affect your health is disgraceful. He should be leaving the house! Please get legal advice as soon as possible.
Thank you he's now gone to his bit on the side won't even speak to his children who are adults now I did tell him to pack his bags and go xx
Good for you. Bullying and intimidating behaviour with the intention of forcing you to leave is coercive control. This is now a criminal offence.
Thank you I have transferred some of inheritance money to another account I will need that when buying a new house and solicitor he has committed adultery xx
The adultery gives you grounds for divorce but unfortunately has no effect on the financial settlement. Basically they take all of the joint property ( money, house, business) and divide it in two. It’s a good thing that you put some of the funds under your control so that he cannot hide it.
Yes and he can't see I have opened the account but wouldn't beable to prove it to the solicitors it my inheritance money xx
You need clear legal advice. I don’t believe it is so easy (as opening another account) to hide money from a partner when splitting up. Only those who can afford clever accountants can do this. You may well have to resign yourself to him getting more money than you would like in order to get rid of him.
Can you pass some of your money to your kids or your sister to look after? I expect there's a catch unfortunately.
I could pass some to my son but I have aright to keep it I could get intouch with the solicitors that were involved with my mums estate me and my sister were executors xx
In the States a sick spouse, who has a cheating spouse, is definitely taken into consideration by the legal system.
Sadly not here. I spent six years fighting to get out with my share of the pot. We have no fault divorce here which means that the grounds for the divorce do not affect the financial settlement.
I certainly do not know the dynamics. Your marital history. I do know statistically many partners aren’t self sacrificing enough to hang in with a major health situation. It’s common for people to bail. That’s why this support group is so important. It is our lifeline. We do understand!!!
I don't have copd but I do know that incense would definitely bring on asthma flare. The smoke and perfume are awful. Very mean of your spouse to light them. I'd keep the door shut with a towel at the bottom to shut out the fumes. I'm so sorry about your problems and hope they are resolved to your satisfaction Lina. Peege
Sorry to hear about your troubles. I can cope with lots of different smells but incense is one I simply can’t tolerate. Extremely selfish but from what else you have said is hardly surprising.
Thank you could tolerate them before emphysema he's banging kitchen doors now as he's making breakfast I asked him to stop he said I'm banging the kitchen doors because he wants to xx
Yep anything like that including Lenor Scent Booster Beads or scented candles sends me off the deep end. My wife eventually gave in!
Sounds like an overgrown schoolboy.stay put and stay well.xx
Im so sorry yr in such diffficult situation.do lean on yr support and tell them whats going on.we r an understanding group too.i hope u can stay in yr room until the smells goneperhaps open windows too xxx
So sorry for you regarding marriage Problem.. As to your candles and air fresheners and heavily scented smoke and smoke of any kind, It stats me coughing and makes me quite ill. but we do use other methods using flowers and a air purifier which work well for me.
His loss, Don`t you fret over someone who can treat you in that way. I shall say that I am not trying to influence you, it is only my way of consoling you in a bad situation. I mean an electric air purifier one that takes smells and dust and impurities out of the air and then circulates clean fresh air in the home.
They are great unfortunately not so cheap.
I use them very rare in my house. I do like the smell when it's not overpowering. I only use eucalyptus, vanilla or orange. But as I said only a bit I might let them burn for 10 min that's enough for me and I don't stay in the room when I burn them. I do open the windows straight after LOL 😋 but you still have a nice smell that's not overpowering.I prefer to use vanilla oil in dry flowers just a little bit.
So just try it out what you can stand.
If not open windows LOL 🤪 😉 x
Lots of good advice form our caring group Lina. I just wanted to add that we are routing for you at this very difficult time. Get good legal advice and take things cautiously. Love and a hug, Carole xx
Like you I dislike incense sticks, always have. Now can't cope with candles but will use diffusers instead. I really hope you dot take the good advice from members here, Lina. We are always here for you and I wish you all the best for a good outcome xxx😊
Insense contains particulate matter which can be carcinogenic - I wouldnt go near it.
Trying to tell hubby is waste of time xx
Any smoke or Burning anything could cause breathing problems. I love to go to our local curry house but had to tell them ( I know the owner) that the incense sticks really affected my lungs. They used to burn 4 at a time!So when they know I’m coming they don’t burn them.
Sorry to hear of your problems it must be awful having to put up with problems like that when being ill some people don't even try to understand about our illness its good you do have support any smells like that would send me into a coughing fit hope you can sort things out you don't deserve that kind of treatment praying for you x
I am sorry for all you are going through. I cannot tolerate incense or perfumes of any kind. We never have fragrance in our place. It can result in pneumonia for me. Your husband is behaving so badly. I am so glad you have support. Take care💕
They smoke so aren't a good idea for lung problems, I've been told. I use an oil diffuser that condenses water and humidifies the room somewhat. They're relatively cheap from Amazon - about £15, I think. You can scent them with any essential oil.
Hi definitely would affect me not only the perfume but burning wood smell triggers me too I do hope you can get some resolution to your problems
Hi there
As others have said, it’s a real no no to burn incense with lung problems. They can leave tiny sooty deposits in the lungs. And so sorry about the marriage issues. You do need a good lawyer to sort the financial settlement, and people for support for the emotional upheaval this must be causing.
Sending good wishes, love and light 😊
Definitely affect me ,any smoke but particularly incense
HiI have emphysema and yes they cause me problems. I find it hard to catch my breath with them.
I try to stay away from strong smells as much as I can.
Why do People not realise how smells can effect us.
Lynda
He must stop it. If he wants to be selfish and not care or learn to understand about your condition then leave. Or more to the point he leave. And if hes smokes in house even in different room the sooner hes gone the better.
I would say if you want a divorce you can have one, but you go live with your bit on the side, divorce him on the grounds of adultery.Hope things work out for you Lina.
Trish x
I find this post not really about healh. People are giving marital advice and don't think this is appropriate.
It incurs on the ladies mental health, so I think it's relevant, this is a support group, so whatever we support.
It involves health issues as well as personal problems which we try to support as best we can for forum members needing help. Personal issues have arisen in the past and we have done our best to help those affected. I think that you will appreciate from the level of replies Lina-61 has received that many of us want to help if we can to try and avoid her health suffering further.
Hi Lina, I agree with everyone else, but just to add, that in Scotland it is my understanding that inheritance money can't be touched by your husband and doesn't count. Check it out, but I know that happened to a friend of mine some years ago. Good luck
Another Man Who Does Not Act His Age !! I’m So Sorry You Are Going Through This . A Mean Selfish So Called Man .. Take Care And Keep Safe See A Solicitor As Soon As You Can 🖤🖤
They would affect me the same as scented candled. and scented sprays. Hope you get everything sorted,
Hi Lina-61, Incense sticks and volatile liquids with strong smells kill me too, however, I am quite alright with essential oils. Unfortunately it doesn't seem to be well recognised. I have recently been in a thoracic ward for surgery and I could smell the shift change of nurses as they pulled up on the car park. It was as if the poundland rep had been selling perfume by the bucketful or they had all walked through a dipping trough before they left home, it was disgusting. Some must apply it with a fire-hose. Incense sticks are smoke particles though and that is not acceptable behaviour from your husband if he burns them. It could be classed as torture if you need any grounds to go on.
Yes absolutely .I also have Emphysema and a few years ago my partner bought some to burn in his office and the smell wafting out really sat on my chest and irritated my lungs so after me struggling and burning a hole in the window sill he stopped using them.
So sorry you’re going through all this trauma , I’m sure you ll benefit from all the support on here . I can’t advice on your marital or financial situation but sending love and hugs 🥰 xx
Hi Lina, Joss sticks affected me years before I was diagnosed with bronchiectasis. Hubby had strict orders not to burn them. I always have to shoot through Duty Free shops at high speed and avoid stores selling scents and candles, especially at Christmas. I think you need a good lawyer quickly. The Cits Advice Bureau might be your first port of call. They used to offer one free consultation with a lawyer- I don't know if they still do. Best wishes for a speedy end to your troubles- you don't deserve what you're going through.
Thank you hubby not answering my texts so don't were he is hasn't been was due in work today no change of clothes taken with him xx
If he hasn’t been in work maybe he’s in as much turmoil about the situation as you are ? Try not to stress too much you will make yourself poorly If he hasn’t taken clothes he ll be back when he’s calmed down and then you can talk things through. Stay strong xxx
He'll have to respond to solicitors' letters, I imagine.
I used to be the queen of scenty candles, had them everywhere! Since developing pulmonary fibrosis I can't bear any artificial scents at all. No way could I cope with incense sticks. I think you would be better off without them and your inconsiderate husband. Good luck!
Sound's a selfish pillock to me. Divorce on the horizon I suspect!
I used to love burning incense in the home, but just can't cope with it now, so all my burners and sticks have been given away.
