diabetes and emphysema
Hi, homegirl59 . What stage are you at with your emphysema, and what type of diabetes do you have - type 1 or type 2? These all make a difference.
Your care for both should include eating a healthy diet and taking your prescribed medication.
type 2 and doc says mild so far
That's OK. With lifestyle changes you can slow down the progression of COPD - I have moderate COPD and my 69% FEV hasn't changed since I was diagnosed in February 2015, thanks to the suggestions of others on this site. Al[ of these lifestyle changes will benefit your diabetes too.
So, eat healthily, start to exercise if you don't already - ask your GP to refer you for a Pulmonary Rehab course; avoid people with infections if you can, take your meds as prescribed and if they don't seem to help, go back to your GP or Respiratory Nurse and ask them to be changed. Ask questions on this forum and try the tips people suggest - for instance, I tried a salt pipe which wasn't helpful generally but makes a real difference if I have a cold.
All the best, and do let us know how you're getting on.
