Lkb81 like you l was diagnosed with bronchiectasis in my late 30s at the time l worked in a special school for children with severe physical and mental issues. Even though l kept getting recurring infections l did not connect the 2 until it was too late. I continued working in care until deterioration in health left me know choice but to stop. The only advice l can give to you is that if you can find some work in the same area that is less hands on go for it l wish l had. These bugs we carry are so strong and clever they find all our vulnerable points x
I’m not surprised Lkb. It must be so hard to have to think of giving up a profession you love.
Wise words from Delamere.
My daughter is an Ass Head yrs 5/6 in a very challenging 3 year intake school. Only nearly 2 weeks in a child she had been teaching is positive for covid, along with another teacher. I believe snotty chest infections have arrived early too for the young ones.
I am assuming you have a respiratory consultant with a special interesti cf/PCD/bronchiectasis.
I expect you know a lot of this but I will put up a link separately, which I hope you will find useful.
Hi. I, very reluctantly, gave up my work at a special school because of bronchiectasis. I was 55 though when diagnosed. Really feel for you, but can't see any way round it. Are you on azithromycin 3x weekly? That may help. Good luck!
Yes schools are the places for bugs to germinate. I was a primary school teacher for 39 years and was ill quite often especially during the winter and spring terms. Only felt better after retiring. Sorry. I once had a whole term off due to recurrent chest infections then pneumonia. Maybe wear a mask if the children aren’t afraid of them. Have your inhaler changed if not on one with smaller particles that get down deep into the lungs. Take care. Xx
