Garshe shared the story of the above and I now have to tell the tale of Princess Diana's funeral when a friend of mine's family gathered together to watch the ceremony live on TV with all the pomp and ceremonial grandeur. This is a large Essex family who often holiday together, aunts and uncles, nieces and nephews. So there they all were, perhaps two dozen, seated or lying down on the sitting room carpet, and glued to the TV screen, the elderly grandmother propped up in an armchair.
The solemn organ music reflected the most sombre and sad of occasions. One by one, the guests walked slowly into Westminster Abbey, the camera zooming in. Various dignitaries, some from the fashion world, cinema stars, film artists, and statesmen. All of a sudden granny became very agitated, shouting out "Oh no, it's him". She shouted the more, becoming very distraught. "What is it granny," they all said, "What is wrong?" She pointed to the screen as the operatic tenor singer, Pavarotti, in his massive frame, slowly ambled into the Abbey . "Look, look" she said, crying out with fear and emotion, "It's Paparazzi"!
Oh how they all laughed"!
