Nice to see but for all the wrong reasons. XxπŸ₯°

Oh yes πŸ˜ƒ you can actually smell the fire which may sound strange but last night the top of the Turkish mountain opposite us was glowing bright orange and red , think it is about under control but the land is so dry

β€’ in reply tosassy59

Big problem for us is our fire crews are already racing around the usual fire hotspots , which is usually caused by people throwing cigarettes out of car windows or broken glass . But some of the ash coming over last night and this morning was still glowing . πŸ˜₯

It sounds incredible. Lots of fires start when it’s so dry or people are thoughtless and careless. Xx

It's ridiculous situation there are laws about fires here anyone found causing one gets an instant five years in prison no messing around , a woman last year a woman got five years for burning rubbish and her orchard caught fire

I lived for a while on a sugar producing island, when they fired the fields after cutting the sugar cane, we had the smell and ash of the fires, and the smell of molasses from the nearby sugar mill. Very rarely did this put lives at risk, just washing of all the curtains when it was over. If I open a tin of molasses, the smell just takes me right back.

It's ok having a controlled fire but when they spring up they quickly spiral out of control here , four dead so far in Turkey but could be more.

Australia last year and parts of the US of A and Canada this year, Some down to nature, but most seem to start from the stupidity of humans. A lot of countries will have to look at managing their scrub and forests differently to make the spread of fires less easy. Changing the stupidity of humans seems unlikely.

Totally agree with you , having a bad day today just found someone as poisoned my kitten found him dead outside our gate , this happens quite frequently usually either Turks or Rumanian gypsies that put food with poison on it next to bins two Turks got prosecuted last year . Really makes me want to swear but bitting my tongue πŸ‘… πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚

I am someone, who reacts to "save the planet" with the comment that the planet is doing just fine, slowly moving the pieces into a new formation, its the humans that are having problems and are the problem. The idea that we have "stewardship" of this beautiful place is weird. Maybe it is time for the insects to rule, with no opposable thumbs they might do less harm.

That's deep ☺️

I'm so sorry to know about your kitten. That's really awful.

β€’ in reply toHungryHufflepuff

It happens on and off unfortunately certain people don't like cats and Greece is full of them . But the way my days been going it's just another nail , having a really down day today.. must be bad I spent ten minutes outside tonight and that isn't my normal thing .

No wonder you're having a down day. What an awful thing to happen, on top of everything else. Maybe you can look at the stars and lose yourself in space for a while. ✨

β€’ in reply toHungryHufflepuff

I went outside earlier I couldn't settle I can't put my finger on what is wrong just have a strange feeling, been like this most of the day , if I could put my finger on it I would be ok but I can't , I'm up and down like a yo-yo can't settle or focus on anything can't sleep and I have the feeling of being lost if that makes sense . Maybe I'm losing the plot I'm not sure πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚

So sorry to read that Davey. My daughter lives on Kos and I once found kittens in a dustbin! There is also a local park where cats are just dumped. Very distressing.

β€’ in reply toAingeful

It happens so frequently because of how many cats there Are

So sorry about the kitten; how horrible some people are. Take care with all this ash coming down- useless advice, as I'm sure you are.

β€’ in reply toAlberta56

Actually I still sat in it the other night , didn't stop outside last night, felt strange felt something was wrong but couldn't put finger on it so stopped in , unlike me I love looking at the stars

Morning Davey :) I hope you are feeling better today? What a horrible thing to happen to your kitten, I am so sorry :( I remember fires close to my father's old house in the South of France, the smell, smoke and ash was horrendous! And planes picking up water from the sea were a constant background hum. It was very scary to see just how much had burned from the plane when we flew home.

Sending hugs, Laurie xx

β€’ in reply toleo60

Yes I could see the planes and helicopters taking sea water and dropping it . The smell lingers aswell.

There have been reports that these fires are arson. Pray that this is not true

β€’ in reply tostamford1234

At the moment there's a lot of problems with migrant build up in Turkey but I wouldn't point the finger at them but they may get the blame , on the other hand Greece may also get the blame because of the hostilities between the two countries for centuries but now over oil excavation in area's that are disputed so I wouldn't be led to accept arson straight away . It's so easy for a fire to start especially when the land is so dry .

stamford1234 profile image
stamford1234

Yes, well I did wonder about the arson, seems a bit brutal. Let's try and think the best of human beings and blame the weather. Either way it is a tragedy.

β€’ in reply tostamford1234

Yes it's very sad , all the islands and mainland Greece and Turkey suffer a lot from fires it doesn't help with the land being so dry like a tinderbox and it only takes a piece of glass in the wrong place and bang bang you have a fire .

β€’ in reply to

I look at it as a genuine accident unless it's proven not to be . But you know yourself it doesn't matter where you go in the world you will find rubbish even in the most beautiful of places it's man's legacy unfortunately .

Hope the fires are starting to be brought under control now, and you feel better in yourself.

β€’ in reply toErgendl

Didn't get to sleep until six thirty this morning, struggling to breath felt like no air in the house nor outside , the ash cloud causing chaos

Ergendlβ€’ in reply to

Tough.

β€’ in reply toErgendl

It's an all out struggle , had to go pharmacy this morning to collect my Meds but they won't be in until this evening , air quality is really poor but can be expected , it's got to be at the moment in the mid 40s and will hit full heat in a couple of hours so not looking forward to it . Going to sit in front of the freezer , 🀣🀣
