Anoro Ellipta... first use and will hopefully help me back to work soon

I used the Anoro Ellipta for the first time around an hour ago and can feel the benefits already, fantastic and only hope its helps improve my breathing the more I use it?!?

I've not been able to work properly for the last 6 months, everytime I'd finish a job I need a couple of weeks off to recover (I'm a painter & decorator) so I'm really hoping this will help to get some normality back. I've had a couple of health professionals tell me I may need to think about giving my trade up due to all the dust and fumes ๐Ÿ˜ (it doesn't help that I have chronic sinusitis) I have bought myself a really good respiratory mask for work so fingers crossed that will help ๐Ÿ˜Š

Hiya and welcome to the forum ๐Ÿ˜ƒ yes I believe that it is not easy. Special when you are a painter. You should think about a career change it will help you breathing better. I can't stand strong smells of paint I really getting breathing problems, well anything with a strong smell, perfume, cleaning products and some more.

I know that work is important but to keep your body healthy even more, you will damage your lungs more when doing this, I guess you don't even smell this anymore.

Glad to hear that the new inhaler works wonders for you.

Please take care of yourself. Best wishes ๐ŸŒบ๐ŸŒบ๐ŸŒบ

So glad that the new med is working for you, with damaged lungs its going to be difficult for you to continue in the trade but for now, good you are protecting the lungs with the new mask, hope you find you can breathe through it ok. Best wishes BK

That sounds good. Hope the Anoro continues to work its magic. Daughter and I share a respiratory mask which we call Darth Vader because of the noise it makes when you breathe through it. ๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜

Hi, thank you for your message. I know nothing about any of the inhalers, so cant help with that, sorry ๐Ÿ˜ It seemed to help yesterday when I took it, today I feel I'm coughing a little more and a lot of gunk is trying to be coughed up but can't! I assume this is normal.

Hi , Iโ€™ve been on Ellipta for a few months now & itโ€™s been very good with my breathlessness. I do have to clear my throat in the morning also as it does make a difference to my day , I use the active cycle of breathing which you can search for on this site . Sorry no idea how to do links ??. . Plus I now have a problem with certain cleaning products & perfumes . Good luck & keep looking at posts on here as I donโ€™t know how I would have got through the past year without all the helpful information from people ,thatโ€™s steered me to ask my Doctor for more help .

Thank you for this, I've had a google about the active cycle of breathing, gave it a go, who'd have known!! fab thank you.

Keeping well hydrated may help you cough up anything that has been lying on your lungs overnight. Stay hydrated throughout the day. If you find you have a lot of mucus you may want to ask your doctor for a prescription of carbocisteine which in addition to drinking plenty of water help to keep the mucus thinner and easily coughed up. Clearing the phlegm / mucus will help you breathe easier.

When using your inhaler, breathe out first before inhaling. Inhale technique as described in the information leaflet that comes with the med. Technique is important

Thank you so much, I'm going to watch this in a moment. The help and advice you guys have given already is out of this world helpful (I hope I'm able to offer as much info the more I find out over time).I always carry a bottle of filtered water with me wherever I go, I probably just don't drink enough of it, I will certainly attempt to drink more now! (I'm terrible for the coffee, all day, and I know this is probably not a help to me?!)

In the morning I usually do inhaler meds, gargle, rinse, brush teeth, then eat and drink to wash any residue away but video explains some more.

Great that this is helping you so much. Difficult decision to give up your trade, but maybe it's one you're going to have to take. Like other lungies, I can't cope with the fumes from gloss paint.

Hi, Thank you for your messageIt is a very difficult decision to make, for a start what would I do instead! This is all I've known for the last 10+ years. I know it makes sense for the sake of my health, I just wonder how difficult the whole big change could/will be ๐Ÿ˜

I'm no longer aware of the smells/fumes around me when decorating, but I guess also it's the dust lingering in the air also after sanding etc which hasn't helped the lungs.

Feel for you. When I was giving up being a dietitian, I started working on things that I really wanted to do, and spent time learning how to self-publish. In the end I was able to move seamlessly from one to the other - though I don't make anything like the same returns. Do you have a hobby or skill that you could turn into a new source of income?

Breathe-73 profile image
Breathe-73 in reply to Ergendl

That's great you was able to switch over without a problem, I hope you're enjoying it as much as being a dietitian? Hopefully I can do the same, it's just the problem of what I can do, my main skill is the decorating, its a shame i'm not good at art!! ๐Ÿ˜€I love clothes but i'd think that would be a very costly career change, I have idea's then think more about it and realise it wouldn't work for me, although I'm not out of ideas yet!

I enjoy what I'm doing now far more. The switch from one to the other involved a steep learning curve, which I was able to do as I tailed off the hours I spent working as a dietitian. I am still learning now. I joined the local Federation of Small Businesses and the local Chamber of Commerce groups too, for networking. Meeting face to face or virtually with other people who have lots of business ideas and are able to spot opportunities and pivot their business to pursue them, has really helped my own business mindset.

I am using Anoro ellipta and have been much better since using it. I hope it continues to help you. I canโ€™t cope with strong smells, paint is not good, perfume, anything really, which is sad because some smells are so lovely. I have to use ecover washing products and white vinegar baking soda and lemon to clean my house.Your occupation wonโ€™t help your condition , be sure to always wear decent masks.๐Ÿ™‚

Hi, Thank you for your message When you first started taking Anoro the next day did you find you was coughing a little more and have the feeling of mucus trying to get up off the lungs but won't come up? or is this just me? Is this what is supposed to do?

I'm no longer aware of the smells/fumes around me when decorating, but I guess also it's the dust lingering in the air also after sanding etc which hasn't helped the lungs. I did notice a couple of weeks back whilst cleaning the kitchen sink how the cleaning product got me coughing to a point of tears streaming, had to put my work mask on to finish the job (once I'd finished coughing ๐Ÿ˜„) I have invested in a mask with filters on now instead of the usual paper ones for work ๐Ÿ˜Š

I donโ€™t think Anoro made me cough the day after i started it. But i donโ€™t have much congestion anyway. When i feel i have congestion i use an aero-sure which helps shift any mucus . ( but it doesnโ€™t suit everyone, we are all different), You would be best to not use chemical stuff to clean with. ( iโ€™m only advising๐Ÿ™‚), White vinegar and baking soda or lemon is excellent at cleaning sinks etc. And no harmful smells.

I hope you can get relief with Anoro, it really helps my breathing and i rarely need to use ventolin( blue inhaler).

๐Ÿ™‚stay safe.

After being on several inhalers doctors abroad took me off them and replaced with Anoro E - works well for me - good luck with the painting- maybe outside jobs would help?

It's OK people saying change jobs, but if you have done something for years it's not easy just to get a different job. If you claim benefits they are never off your back every week they are calling you asking what you have applied for believe me it gets you down. I've applied for loads of jobs that I've got little experience in and I'm not getting anywhere. So stick to what you are doing.

Hi Thank you for your messageThis is exactly my problem, I completely understand why I'm being told this but I've been decorating for over 10+ years, and been self employed with my own little business for the last 7 (almost 8) years. I think it will be extremely hard these days to find employment for myself, I assume I would have to let whoever I worked for that I have Copd/Depression?! Although it shouldn't be discriminated against we all know any disability etc is at times. (Yes we can appeal but would it get me anywhere! And all the extra headache to deal with appealing!) Also I know it's not old but being 48 won't be on my side with regards to what I can do. My Dad mentioned maybe a job in a big supermarket, I should and would do it if I have no other choice, but i Said to him, it would drive me crazy, I'm so used to being in different locations/houses/etc, being sat in one spot for a few hours would severely make my mental health get worse I believe.

I also have the issue of not being able to do the decorating like I used to, I'm exhausted all the time when I'm not working, so when I do get a burst of energy and start a job it's not long before i feel shattered and my sinusitis plays up heaps. I feel so deflated the last year and half, it's as if i'm a different person.

Hi breatheI am in that same position had to leave my job as a carer as it was getting too much was fatigued and breathless. Now I've been claiming universal credit and they are constantly on my back about getting a job. There are days when I totally feel ill as I also have osteoarthritis, but they don't care. I'm not( ill enough) to claim other benefits.

I'm 55yrs old I've got to show them what jobs I have applied for so my benefit doesn't get stopped. So I would stick to what you know. Wishing you all the best Jane.

That's absolutely crazy! Poor you or anyone who has to deal with this, how distressing amongst other things. I've just re-read your first message, how can you or anyone be expected to deal with it if it affects you so badly! Madness. I checked if we'd be entitled to any help...3 quid a week for the next 6 months!! It's such a nightmare not knowing what to do. I'll just crack on as I was I guess and see what happens ๐Ÿฅด
