air physio, does this work?
It’s a flutter device, they do help with mucus clearing. They can be prescribed by your GP in the UK. There are lots on the market so don’t pay too much. An alternative is to fill a 1 litre bottle with water and blow into it through a straw. Word of caution if you suffer from lung bleeds you should not try any of these.
To be honest my physiotherapist is very down on these types of devices. She stated the various breathing exercises are far better.
I’ve replied to posts about this previously, and if you put air physio in the search box up the top, other posts will appear asking the same thing. There is scientific basis for _some_ of the claims made about the device, however, the company is out solely to make money and would tell anyone it works if they thought they could sell it to you as a result. One of the things that really annoys me about the air physio, and similar devices, is the claim that patients with cf are using them; this is rubbish. No cf patient would be using this on the advice of their medical team. Not one. The bits of the claims that are true is that OPEP is a useful method of clearing the lungs of excess sputum. But, OPEP based devices are supplied free of charge on the NHS where they will be beneficial to a patient with a lung condition. Whether or not it would be beneficial will depend on your diagnosis: pep and flutter devices are usually of benefit to people with productive conditions, where they produce and need to clear sputum. If the issue you have is purely breathlessness, contrary to the website claims, OPEP is not going to be of use.
