Long time since I’ve been on site..lots of life events to deal with not to mention the lockdown ...thankfully now had both jabs and returning to the world slowly and safely.
Over the passed months I’ve been suffering from my muscles being extremely tired and at times painful.
Just wanted to know if others are experiencing similar.
I do exercise but have found it harder this winter to get motivated at home. Have now returned to gym and swim but swimming was awful never felt chest so tight and so breathless...did manage to swim and felt better afterwards but took me all day for muscles to recover. Have decided to build up muscle strength snd not swim for a while
Any info and advise on extreme muscles fatigue would welcome.
I’ve had COPD for over a decade but have controlled mainly through exercise and good diet...well do have the odd cream slice!!
Thankfully only on one inhaler but do feel somethings changed, seeing GP on Tuesday.

Have you considered continuing swimming but just building up your stamina. Swimming is known to be one of the best exercises. I look forward to being able to return to swimming (pool closed for repairs) but won’t actually swim initially. Will do exercises in the water (from internet) before actually swimming. Will also try to listen to my body and if initially am only in water 5 minutes then that’s fine!
Well done for starting to get back in to exercise regime.
Thanks, yes did go into training before my swim. It was the first time I was so uncomfortable in the pool. I do feel something has changed in my lungs.
The muscle fatigue I’ve experienced for several years it just seems now for every half an hour exercise I have to rest for an hour...all very boring. Thanks for getting back to me, good advise us aways welcome.
The BLF used to have an excellent DVD with gentle exercises to build up stamina. I do Pilates classes on Zoom to keep supple & stronger (back bad since a fall last August). There are loads of exercise clips on YouTube for seniors which are more gentle & some are only 10 minutes so you could build up to 3 short sessions a day? Joe Wicks has a 10 min one.
I have CFS so comletely understand the lack of stamina and motivation grrr
I’m very lucky as we have a new sports centre (council) where the indoor swimming pool water that uses Ozone disinfection systems. are Although a relatively new technology, ozone is gaining popularity due to its efficiency and lack of chemical chlorine smell and heated by solar energy.
Since it’s been built 2 years ago I was able to join Aquafit classes as well as Lane swimming a couple of times a week.
I hadn’t been able to swim for year so was over the moon when I read about the new facility.
Thankfully due to so many kids and adults suffering from Asthma and other respiratory ailments technology had invested in finding away everyone can swim.
Haven't heard of that. Ozone haven't heard about that, chlorine is a no no for me . Even the health centre attached to hospital has pool and gym with adjoining doors left open can affect my breathing. Did rehab course there and follow up to that was all cancelled due to covid. Need some exercise too.
I had written some time ago that I like many suffer sensitivity to smells or all sorts but especially strong household cleaners and other manmade chemicals that effects my breathing badly.
The pool technology I mentioned is expensive and newish but thankfully they incorporated it when building a new sports centre near my home. This has enabled me to return to swimming which in truth is the only exercise I’ve enjoyed from an childhood.
I would urge to to return to finish the rehab coarse but do make it known to the person in charge acing the pool doors open causes you breathing difficulty and they will I’m sure they will help by closing them for the duration of your visit.
I have now completed two rehab courses since my diagnoses not near 2 decades ago and the first rehab made a huge difference to my controlling my condition. The second rehab I learnt new breathing techs especially when having coughing fits.
Thanks for info . I did finish rehab course with the door firmly closed ! I was booked in free as follow -up at new town sports centre but covid intervened and I will h ave to ask the new centre about their pool when I go, if it can be recheduled. Don't want to use the pool . I never managed to breathe and swim at same time despite going to pool every Thurs with school . My school did not have usual sports day . Just a swimming sports day ! I did have a sailing dinghy later and did fall in on occasions but always wore a lifejacket.
Hope you find a pool near you that had the this system or similar, I think there are another couple that cut out the smell of chlorine. It really changes your life if you are a bit of a water baby like me.
