A coroner has called for a change in the law after air pollution led to the death of a nine-year-old girl.

Ella Adoo-Kissi-Debrah, who lived near the South Circular Road in Lewisham, south-east London, died in 2013.

An inquest had found air pollution "made a material contribution" to her death.

Coroner Phillip Barlow said there is "no safe level of particulate matter" in the air and called for national pollution limits to be reduced.

As I write this, in your area, the PM2.5 is at 19 µg/m³, the WHO recommended limit is almost half of that, at 10 µg/m³. Unfortunately I believe the Gov will continue to drag their heels with implementing the lower limits. Vehicles will continue to pump it out and burning will be allowed to continue.

I completely agree. The traffic is dreadful with more and more housing being built so no hope for cleaner air. Thank you for the info. Xxxx

And vehicles are getting larger and larger too, with cars burning more fuel because they are heavier and contain so much more metal.
