Two weeks ago I suddenly became aware of joint aches and pains. It was as if I had been run over with a steamroller. The next day my nose was running and I was getting through boxes of tissues. As I could pin point when it started, I assumed a virus.
Since Covid, I have realised how flippant doctors were with viral symptoms. I am sure we have all been told “ it’s just a virus “. It made me wonder about other viral infections scientists have missed with this couldn’t care less attitude?
One week had passed and I still felt very unwell. My breathing was difficult, I had nasal congestion and now I was barking like a dog.
I decided to do a Covid test to be on the safe side which was negative. So I had a telephone appointment with the doctor who uttered those infamous words “it’s just a virus “!
My nose is beginning to dry up and my breathing is easier. However, I can hardly walk due to pain in all limbs. Perhaps it is just a virus however, I can’t help thinking that we should be looking seriously at circulating viruses and how people are being affected.

Yes I agree with you. A virus can be life threatening to us with lung disease. I guess it's because 'normal' folk rarely die of one and there is no real effective treatment. If it doesn't kill you then doctors aren't interested.
My sister said something interesting once. Doctors only treat symptoms according the the NHS lights but they don't treat for optimal health so we suffer unnecessarily.
I have returned to Scotland after living for 24 years abroad. However, I was under no illusion about the NHS . I knew if was was struggling to cope but it really is on its knees.Obviously, some cost cutting decisions have had to be made. However, when treatment is dependent upon blood tests or similar and the results goal posts keep moving without adequate supporting evidence
Totally agree as it’s the flippancy and lazy attitude of some gps which is overloading the real workers in the hospitals, not just a pain to us neglected patients.
You don't say if you have had any investigations to establish what is causing the pain. I suffered for ages being told I had Arthritis just take pain killers. I eventually cwent to. a homopath. It was a totally different story, both my daughter and I recieved treatment which was effective. She had Asthma which subsided and remained under control for 20 yrs. If you can find one that is recommended this is best because unless things have changed there is no recognised accredited training. Good luck.
Due to Covid restrictions, I cannot even see a doctor. Thankfully my nasal secretions are drying up but the dry cough remains and is very rough. I am using salbutamol inhalers and steroid inhalers which help . Therefore, I think it’s triggered my asthma. The joint pains and stiffness are worst in the morning and ease of as the day progresses. The doctor advised me to take Naproxen however, I don’t want to be taking anti inflammatory medications long term. No investigations planned after all “it’s just a virus “!
I too came down with this virus ,needed antibiotics 2 lots as have bronchiectasis,sputum sample tested clear but had hacking cough with rattle in lower lung ,was due to go back to work after shielding but Dr signed me off .Start of week 4 and feeling much better ,by the way it was not covid x
That certainly sounds similar to my symptoms, especially the cough.Unfortunately, I have not been able to see a doctor and telephone appointments (2) are limited for diagnosis. My nasal passages are blocked therefore, that distinctive influence on speaking has led the doctor to diagnosing upper respiratory airways viral infection.
The fact that I could almost give an exact timeframe of onset, strengthened the diagnosis.
Unfortunately, in the current situation, the likelihood of investigating the accompanying joint pains and stiffness are very slim.
I suffer from multiple autoimmune disease therefore, cannot rule out a viral trigger for my symptoms. I suppose on this occasion I will probably never find out.
Others have informed me of similar experience to ours but I can’t find the WHO website for tracking viral circulation . If anyone knows what it’s called now, I’d be grateful for a link?

Ecology and evolution is not my area of scientific research. However, the article clearly states that as a science community we have for whatever reason largely ignored the sequencing of viral diversity.Obviously, with finance being made available and general scientific interest in the SarsCov2 virus , including variants, this has encouraged scientists to migrate towards further enquiry of this viral trajectory. Hence, other seemingly non life threatening viral activity is being generally ignored.
