MY MYSTERY INJECTION FOR COPD AND EMPHYSEMIA .......

Endless thanklies for all those who responded to my item on a possible - apparently rather "Expensive injection " to hopefully reduce my enormous Hospital Admissions ...., following 42 hospital Admissions in ten years with COPD and Emphysemia --- from my Consultant ..... , apparently I have to have a blood test first - presumably for " technical reasons , so lets keep our fingers crossed . ! ,,,...any more admissions to this famouse huge London Hospital , AND THEY'LL BE NAME A WARD AFTER ME ....!- I can see it now . = .." VITTORIO WARD " = for all your health needs ...."!!.

You say "COPD and emphysema" but in fact COPD is just the umbrella term for respiratory diseases including emphysema. Best of luck with the test -=what has caused your hospitalisations in fact? Pneumonia?

Hi Timberman - thanklies for your reply...its a bit of a mystery !,,, on occasions when I wake up , I can hardly breath -how can you be out of breath , just lying in bed for seven hours !!-=- gasping for breath - almost as if the lungs have gone to " sleep " and are a bit slow in getting back into ACTION !.. Xrays don't appear to show anything ... its not Pneumonia ., so they say , so after injections of steroids etc , a few days to get the old lugs ! to get back to some kind of " normality" I go home - again ......yes , your quite right about the COPD bit ..! ..yes , and i did smoke for some 35 years - nothing heavy , BUT , since I've had this , I'VE COME ACROSS TEN TIMES MORE WITH COPD WHO HAVE NEVER SMOKED IN THEIR LIVES , AND ONE OF THESE IS A DOCTOR !! - SHE SAID " WE ARE GOING TO HAVE TO THINK THE ORIGINS OF THIS DISEASE = AGAIN ! , . Never mind , lets hope the test is satisfactory , and this " Injection " they speak of might bring the lungs into some sort of " Normality !! . I wish you well; .... there seem to be as many variations in copd as those who have it !!..good luck !!.😀

Interesting. Do you check you oxygen saturation first thing in the morning? An oximeter is quite cheap and could help. Are you over weight?: I snore and now discover I suffer sleep apnoea which means I stop breathing for short periods. I am now using a CPAP machine - Constant Pressure Air Pathways - which keeps my airway open. My sats are much better and I nod off less often.

Those with no smoking history will often have other environmental causes and could have a genetic factor. My mother and my grandmother dies of COPD related illnesses (not called COPD back then). So I stood no chance, being a smoker as well!

What exactly is this injection? I also have trouble with breathing every time I wake up. It's like I think my oxygen is lower and my carbon dioxide is elevated. But as I breathe and get on, they seem to balance out. I think I might benefit from nightly oxygen therapy as I sleep. I'm planning to talk with my pulmonary doctor and primary care provider about that soon. I get tired of feeling so winded, especially when I first wake up.

Have you been on oxygen? I don't understand how you can go though all this if you are on oxygen. But if you aren't on oxygen, why not?

What is the injection called?? What is the purpose and functions of the injection? Make sure you understand these things please. Nobody should get anything put into their bodies without having an complete understanding about it.

Yes good questions ...Starrfire 78 .!..- its not every morning I wake up being very short of breath - but enough to bother me and get me into Hospital many times !! ...this " Injection " , I heard of a few years ago , and forgotten the name of = blast !!! " ...- I have another session with my Consultant in a few weeks , so will get down to what it is , and if it is suitable for me , - ,I only remember = its not cheap !! ... - I suppose we can blame those who make it ... - someone , I recon is making a packet out of us - COPDERS " ! . , I'me not on oxygen - that look wants looking at I suppose .. no one has ever brought up the subject about = " Being on oxygen !! - oh dear !! , never mind , will go into battle with these things in a few weeks , - one more thing , = I have a hell of alot of trouble with making - MUCUS - GALLONS OF THE STUFF !! -ITS LIKE " EVOSTICK " ! ... INCREDIBLE CHEMICAL FROM , ! I SUPPOSE THE LUNGS ...., my doctor has given me = "AZITHROMYCIN " which seems to reduce it a bit .. = " two pills - every other day ".... , its the old story , - you spend half an hour getting this lot up , then your absolutely breathless after that !! ... you can't win with this illness ! .its .. a vicious circle ! . anyway , we battle on , so lets see WHAT HAPPENS . Ask your consultant about ASPERGILLOSIS (ASPERGILLUS) DISEASE. This is caused by mould found in rotting leaves, also found in the soil, dust and bedding and air conditioning. The spores are breathed into the lungs causing illness. Even fluffing up the pillows can disperse dust containing the spores into the air. It lives both indoors and outside (trees etc). Very common fungus. Not everyone gets a reaction.

Might not be this at all but it could be a shot in the dark. Worth a try ????
