I think everyone should have faith. Yes things did not run smoothly at first. All governments were dealing with something never perceived before, many mistakes, yes but can you believe Germany’s death rate, I don’t. Also a lot of European states have got it wrong. We must go forward from now. I have emphysema stage 4. I have had 1 jab and keen to have 2nd. Please don’t be so damagingly negative. I lost my brother in law last month to coved so I have experienced loss.Be positive. Embrace the here and now PLEASE

I am very sorry to hear you lost your brother to this dreadful illness. Sadly too many have died and far too many people are going through similar losses.

As we all have a lung disease on here I think we all try and live in the present, and I'm not sure what you mean by 'damagingly negative'. Hopefully the governments of the world will take the lessons learned from this pandemic. This is positive if they can and not negative.

By damagingly negative I believe we have to understand our government do not want this situation to continue as there are more important issues, like the homeless, but no country has experienced this level of devastation ever and the world is having to learn, unfortunately by trial and error, we must go forward as best we can. I am trying to be positive, however sometimes it is difficult when you hear how the EU respond by talking about blocking vaccines

Of course we all understand that as any rational person does. No one is saying the government wants this situation. The link I put up merely showed how other countries dealt with it and I hope the rest of us can use them as a blueprint.

This would result in far less deaths and many less people mourning lost loved ones. This is positive not negative surely?

So sorry for your loss ermintrude, its difficult when there are some posts / comments / that play the blame game and come across on the negative side. Try not to read or get involved with the posts or comments you find negative, this will help you remain positive. Its a very difficult time for everyone especially so those who have lost family and friends.

Take good care of yourself.

I fail to see how my post was negative? It wasn't blaming anyone but just stating how a few countries managed the pandemic. Perhaps you could quote the relevant negative bits as I only see positivity.

The point is far less people died in these countries and I see that as positive not negative. There were far fewer catching it and thus dying of covid. I don't see how this is negative. I wasn't getting political but just praising other countries responses. Like I said a blueprint for the rest of the world to follow next time.

Please don't put connotations in my post which weren't there!

There is blame and bad mouthing of the UK government and that can come across as negative and unhelpful especially for those who are already having difficulty coping and trying to remain positive, these are my views that some may agree with and obviously those who do not. No further comment on the matter. Keep it supportive to the originating post.

I haven't blamed or bad mouthed the government. Please say where I have done this. I have stated facts and posted how a few other countries have successfully kept the infection and death rate right down. This is lessons most countries can learn from.

You are the one bringing politics into it and I am sure you are aware that is banned on here. Stick to the points I have made and stop turning this into an argument. If you haven't anything helpful to say then stay away from my posts and comments.

You are bringing the site down with your negative attitude and derogatory comments towards me. I have said what I mean and mean what I say so I am not commenting any more on this issue. Any further remarks in the same vein by you will be reported to admin. Stay away from me and keep a civil tongue in your head.

I was not seeking you out personally, just asking people to be as positive as possible. I don’t think any government in the western world has got this pandemic right. Thailand, New Z ealand and 1 or 2 others, please don’t think I was aiming at youStay Safe

I have plenty of faith in scientists and the NHS, politicians not so much!

Well said and keep those positive thought going. Keep happy.

I'm also looking forward to my 2nd jab ermintrude - I spotted on FB they have indicated that those who had their first dose in January will shortly be receiving their appointment letter to attend for their 2nd dose, so not long now :)

Keep well, keep positive x

Yes, it is somewhat unfortunate that this has been turned into a competition between different countries, which is fine if it encourages better research and treatment (which is a positive aspect), but not if it simply results in a "blame culture" (the negative). I suppose, realistically, almost anything can produce both responses, it just happens that the pandemic is so important an issue that people get frustrated when things don't work out as they feel they should, and this boils over onto the forum (though it's a lot worse on other social media!).

Even if COVID-19 is here to stay, in one form or another, things will undoubtedly get better because humans are very good at adapting to change (look how many people and organisations have risen to the challenge, in an astonishingly short time). In Andrew Marr's book "A History of the World", he cites many advances in civilisation which have resulted from major upsets like this; the upside of the pandemic is that it may well produce some positive change of which we are currently unaware but, in the meantime, we will just have to ride it out.
