That is not good news. I do hope you are feeling better soon. Have you been checked for bronkiestasis? As 6 is alot of pneumonia"s. And have you had the pneumonia vaccine ?. Lots to drink, rest, and keep up with your meds. Take care

Hi Corriena, Thankyou, I haven't so far been checked for that. But, I had 'Varicella Pnuemonia,' a rare type of Chicken Pox, aged 45. Which did a fair bit of damage and seemed to set me on this trend. They are going to be doing more tests asap. I have had the Pnuemonia jab, around 12 years ago. Also, need inhalers checking out, as they don't seem to be doing their job efficiently. In the meantime I am sat on my Sofa with Mint Tea.

The Varicella Pneumonia and following pneumonias could have produced the damage that has resulted in bronchiectasis. Also, you have long term asthma which could also be a contributing factor. Insist that your GP refers you to a respiratory consultant who is also a specialist in bronch. Only a ct scan will confirm whether it is present or not. If it is the case that bronchiectasis has developed, the specialist will then help you to manage it and organise a programme of medication to help you and your GP control it. Don’t let them just keep reacting to the crises, be proactive and good luck.

Oh, Thankyou, littlepom, I don't know much about Bronchiectasis. I will do so, as soon as this Covid pandemic, allows. As I believe reacting to the crisis is exactly what they are doing..

Don't wait for the pandemic to abate. Get put on the waiting list soon; if it's anything like in my area you'll have quite a wait.

Thank you Sops, yes, it really is! I feel exhausted by it.

I do emphasise. Its interesting that you have asthma and had chicken pox badly, i had measles badly when i was 3 yrs , my sight was damaged and I spent the Next 7 years in and out of Birmingham Children's hospital with nasal and chest complaints. I was only diagnosed with bronchiectasis 5 years ago after years of asthma treatment. A CAT scan showed my bronchii to be greatly enlarged and not normal , I hope you can be given great treatment and will feel better soon.

Oh I did too Sops! Think we must be roughly the same age. I lived with my Grandparents at that time. And I remember my Gran telling my grandad to. Cover all the lights with Brown Paper incase my eyes where hurt. N the fire being banked right up with Coal. I just lay on the Sofa Sweating for 3 Weeks. Yours must have been very bad though. People these days don't know what an awful disease Measles was. Think I just started School when the Vacc came out. I was around 43 though when I got Chicken pox. The children at Nursery had it. Mine didn't get it n I did,! Always had a gravely voice n asthma. Good that you got the Cat scan n bronchi was noticed. I have zero phlegm mostly, so they don't think it's that with me. 🤷‍♀️

It is, I had Whooping Cough when I was 2 n I don't think thats helped.

It probably didn't help (I had whooping cough when I was very young too). All best wishes for a speedy recovery.

Gosh thats really bad having this 6 times Dubba61. I wonder if this is the same virus that keeps coming back and perhaps they havent cleared it up the first time, this could also explain your flare ups. Take good care of yourself and rest up as much as possible x

6 episodes of pneumonia is a lot. Hope you feel better soon. My practice nurse told me a couple of years ago that the pneumonia vaccine only lasts about 3 years. She also said that the adult version is no where near as effective as the pneumonia vaccine for children.

Dubba61 profile image
Dubba61 in reply toCDPO16

Really? I can't say I'm surprised though. As it's not stopped me getting it. Plus, I'm getting older n it's getting more exhausting. Children can't come over. One works NHS the other in the mddle of a doctorate. 🤷‍♀️ They do ring though n are worried.

Having pneumonia takes it out if you, rest, plenty of fluids if your not eating and more rest.

I’ve had severe pneumonia twice a year for the last 4 years the last lot in October/ November nearly had me at the pearly gates. So far no cause has been found, which is frustrating.

I can’t stress enough the need to take things easy so keep on the sofa with your mint tea

Hope your feeling better soon

Love and hugs

J

Gosh judes, that's a lot. It must be quite worrying as well as frustrating that no cause has been found. Hope you fare better in the future.

Oh dear, you too? Yes, it is really frustrating. The Varicella was the Worst for me and definately took me very close to those Pearly gates. I think it has only a 2 in 5 survival rate. So I was lucky. I was ill and tired for about 3 years after it. My Children where very young then. Think that's what kept me going. But, also, I wrote 'Funeral instructions' out one evening last week. Convinced that was me out! Off course, because of the Covid I wasn't able to get through to the Dr. And all this started with a chill in November. So I've probably walked around with it for Months. Hugs back 💐and Thankyou, for your concern.

I agree. Try to address this issue.. This pandemic may go on for ever. A respiratory specialist is needed & a diagnosis. They may well put you on a long term prophylactic antibiotic like azithromycin to keep infections in check but I'm no doctor, which is what you need. Take care & I hope you get some answers soon. X

Dubba61

Yes, it definitely needs sorting. Because I am starting to dread Winter. Young lady doc at Hosp seems pretty efficient though, and she says she will sort it for me to see a Specialist Team . Thankyoux
