Aerosure

I have severe COPD. Just wondering if anyone has bought a Aerosure device & does it help with breathlessness. I'm desperate to find something to help with this awful disease. Thank you.

Hello Jansy16 I have an aerosure, and would say it is good but like everything else, you have to persevere

I got an acapella from my aGP it's just the same as an aerosure buy I paid nothing for mine. A flutter valve is also available on the NHS which does the same job. Hope this helps have a good day and take care 😊 Bernadette and Jack 🐕 xxxxxx

I have had quite severe breathing problems on minimum exertion past couple of months(16 years copd). Also 4 chest infections since September. Consultant yesterday has prescribed azythromycin, one tablet Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. It is an antibiotic being used as an anti inflammatory to try and settle the lungs. Will see how it works.

Lol1944, I take azthromycin and I have a flutter valve. Certainly helps.

I had one and it was a waste

Quite a few of us use an aerosure to loosen mucus so that we can clear our chest. I don't use it for breathlessness as I have bronchiectasis.. I know that it is advertised for that but don't know if anyone with copd has found that it makes their their breatlessness less.

I belong to another Copd group here in the US. The other day everyone was talking about trouble with getting the mucus up. I couldn't believe how many people said to drink a glass of pineapple juice. I tried it and it did help. Just have to wait and see if it continues to help. I guess it doesn't hurt to try!

Hi jansy16,not an aerosure but I use an acapella device every morning and swear by it

The Aerosure is an expensive flutter device, flutter devices can be prescribed by a GP at no cost. They are used to help loosen mucus and therefore may make breathing easier. My pulmonary rehab physio suggested blowing through a straw into a large jug full of water which has a similar effect. I did look at getting a flutter device but as I have had lung bleeding they are not recommended.

Hi Jansy16Do you have a nebuliser? I found it a big help for clearing mucas. I have Sabutamol which my GP prescribes and saline that I use in it. Got the nebuliser pretty cheap off Amazon, about £40. Hope you are feeling better soon.

Hi Festie, I've thought of buying a Nebuliser but my Dr won't prescribe the Saline, & to be perfectly honest the last time I was in Hospital I had a reaction to the Nebuliser, I felt as if I was suffocating & was better off just using my inhalers. I'm on Trimbow twice a day & Ventolin when needed. Seen the adverts for Aerosure & thought will give it ago as feeling quite desperate so hoping it may help. How breathless are you & what stage COPD are you. I'm trying my best to keep out of Hospitals at the moment with the Corona virus in most of them.

Hi JansyI'm stage 4 X Just recovering from double pnuemonia. I'm hoping it hasn't left me any worse off than I was before. I use Trimbrow and a blue inhaler but sometimes they are just not enough. Also take carbocistine to make the mucas you cough up, thinner.I have bought myself an oximeter, blood pressure monitor and digital temperature reader. I think you have to see the early signs of anything getting worse and act X stay safe

Hi Festie, I'm on exactly the same medication as you, & agree it doesn't seem to help that much. I rang my surgery not so long ago & asked if there was a stronger inhaler than Trimbow as it isn't helping enough, she said it was a strong one & couldn't or wouldn't listen. Unless you suffer with COPD nobody seems to care, they just quote from books. You'd think by now something should help us sufferers. I was having a bad day yesterday, very breathless, felt like giving up. I'm 77yrs old, my husband is in a Nursing home. Sometimes feeling like I'm suffocating. I don't want to go into Hospital as so many Covid patients are in them. I can't go anywhere as I'm so breathless. Sorry for this rant, as you have a lot to cope with. Do you feel any better now. Take care.

I have an AeroBika, which the respiratory nurses asked my doctor to prescribe. It worked like magic when I was very bad. We are all different, so what works for one person may not help another, but gentle breathing exercises seem to help nearly everyone. Have you got a respiratory nurse or your doctor you can talk to. Hope you can find something that helps soon.

I have one, I can't get on with it at all. I like the idea of blowing through a straw into a jug of water, I will definitely give that a try. Good luck with your search for something

I'm beginning to think I've wasted my money, but we try anything that we think will help. Thanks for replying.
