Bronchiestasis sufferer

Hi I’m new here🤗

I was diagnosed 4 years ago with Bronchiestasis, I take Carbosistine and have rescue pack antibiotics, but I am struggling at moment as I now find I am having difficulty swallowing and my throat feels raw, but not as infected.

Does anyone else experience this. Many thanks 😊

Hello, I have bronchiectasis too. Have you ever been diagnosed with silent reflux? It sounds a possibility. Its just a thought as it is often something that bronchiectasis sufferers also have. When my diagnosis of bronchiectasis was made my consultant told me to continue taking Omaprazole. I had been taking this medication before my bronchiectasis diagnosis for acid reflux. A sore throat was one of the symptoms.I hope this helps.

🤗 Hi , many thanks for your reply I had actually thought of that but I am already on omeprazol, it is actually the difficulty in swallowing is my main concern. Also I have had 2 infections since last December for which I had my rescue antibiotics, but I am still feeling awful and coughing more or less all day. I am awaiting a call from my Consuktant. 😊

It is very difficult at the moment and I feel for you. It will help to speak to your consultant and it should put your mind at rest. Hopefully he/she can also advise with the swallowing problem. I'd be interested to know what the outcome is if you have time to let me know.Cheers. Chrys

I have silent reflux,I am 41,it was that that actually caused my bronchiectasis.i started wheezing coughing of a night til a point we're it felt like I was choking.was originally told it will be asthma and given inhalers.As I never had heartburn symptoms they didn't even think of it being reflux(I should have realised myself).Even though you are on omeperazole,that doesn't fully stop reflux,it makes it less acidic,but reflux can still irritate your thour throat.Try gaviscon ADVANCE for 2 weeks spoonful after every meal and before bed.try sleeping a bit raised.im sure that will help,I have had similar.make sure it's the gaviscon advance,not the normal one.
