So i find myself writing again of having the same symptoms i posted about 10 months ago. A sharp stabbing pain on either side of chest but mostly right, it’s not there all the time but it has been consistent when taking deep breaths or occasionally leaning / bending over. Anything like getting changed also triggers the sharp pain.
I know that my bloods came back with infection two days ago and my GP said to get a covid test this morning which i have done. However i have been fully isolating not even going out for shopping (all done online) and NO CONTACT at all with anyone else.
So all in all I’m assuming i have pleurisy again, but don’t know what i can now do to get rid of it other than see my doctor again on Monday? Any home remedies / things i can do?

Yes i actually got my covid results back this morning and they are negative thank goodness. The replies last time are identical when i had pleurisy, i feel like it is that but not sure i should bother the doctors and just let it pass but no one had said any tips on what i can do to help it.
I ended up taking 3 covid tests as hospital really convinced I had it the first two negative then within hours my 3rd was positive - hospital said if you feel it’s the symptoms then treat it as covid especially if you’ve had a rapid test as they are so unreliable.
This is exactly what my doctor said I had as the pain in my chest was mainly in one place but my x ray showed no fluid so originally they said plurisy until the next day when my covid test came back positive! It’s very similar to the pain and shortness I had 5 years ago with plurisy you feel like your swimming but can’t get to that last bit without sinking ! The pain gets worse at different times I still have it 3 weeks on. If I breathe in deeply then it hurts my bloods were raised showing virus infection which sadly was the covid. If you have any cold flu like symptoms too including sinus or headache then I’d bet you’ve got it - I was heavily shielding the only 3 places I had been when they worked out the 10 days that I caught it in was 2 petrol stations and a tyre place as I got a burst tyre going to the petrol station ! I’ve no idea but I say get the test done ASAP
Yeah, i got my result this morning and it’s negative. I literally work from home so the closest person i see is the postman! That’s exactly how it feels with what you described the swimming! I feel like i can’t get to a top breath often as it hurts or just can’t get there. It’s exactly how i felt last year and then i ended up in A&E where the X-ray showed nothing but they heard it rubbing when sounding my chest.
Exactly the same as me, I’ve been wfh since March last year I’ve been so careful and yet still get it - I can only think it’s in the air as I go out every day for a walk. I honestly would get a drive through test which take a few days but they are more responsive. The doctor in the hospital told me it’s more likely to be a false negative as they are having so many and not heard of false positive. It really is similar to plurisy so I understand your concern and in fact the treatment is all the same so I would isolate and treat as covid for 10 days. The covid line on 111 is very good too they will get you speak to a doctor esp if short of breathe
I did get a drive thru test, I’m sure it’s not covid as they diagnosed pleurisy last year and it’s identical now but i have messaged my doctors surgery so will wait for their reply hopefully tomorrow. I just feel bad wasting their time if there is nothing they can do, just have to wait it out like last time i guess. I had a feeling they gave my co-amoxyclav though or paracetamol.
They gave me co codomol and diflentic I think that’s how it’s spelt or similar but then I had to come off it as no good for asthmatics so I was taking paracetamol and Noproxen to help with inflammation
Quick reply and apologies if someone else has already suggested this but have you considered Costocondritis? Inflammation of the small muscles around the rib cage ( I am not a medic so a lay-mans description only)! I have RA and have had it twice and it can be so very very painful. I feel mine when I take in a really deep breathe and fill my lungs and also when I change position , say lay down. I was given oral steroids by my Rheumatologist but I also had inflammation elsewhere in my body. Someone can also get it if they are perfectly fit and well but happen to “ strain” those muscle ( say when lifting something heavy). Do look into it. I hope you get this resolved quickly.
Interesting I’ve heard of that before and wondered if it was that last time. Who knows...they’re all so similar aren’t they but i get that feeling when i sit up too or get changed / get out of the bath. It’s weird because i don’t get it every single time i breathe just occasionally and it can be really painful. Seems to get worse through the day and when i do more. My bloods showed infection and inflammation.
Well could well be if they have detected inflammation already! Sounds like if you treat the inflammation ,which can take quite some time to get it out of the system, this may improve? I still get an occasional “ pop” from my ribs but luckily no pain so almost a little reminder to me! Out of interest, my bloods have never shown inflammation but quite clearly by looking at / feeling the heat from wrist and fingers I have it so always best to go on how you feel / can use your body than relying on blood tests too much.
