Its a long long time since I stopped smoking , so sorry I can’t be of much help. But for UK residents the BLF have a helpline on 03000 030 555.

I know it’s a difficult time with COVID regulations, but could you email or ring your GP practice for advice.

If you breathlessness gets worse ring 111

Best wishes and I hope you get some help soon

Hi John, I stopped back in 2013 after being diagnosed with Aspergillosis, I know what you are saying, your lungs have been conditioned for a hit of smoke and nicotine so they protest when it doesn’t arrive. You could try one of the nicotine sprays which might help. I’m afraid it does take a long time( months)for the feelings to subside. Stay strong and focused and don’t be tempted It will get better.

Thanks for your advice much appreciated

I gave up on diagnosis over16 years ago, also cold turkey, you need to drink plenty of water to help flush out the toxins, and eat healthy, oranges for vitamin C, your no. 1 priority should be looking after your body, so that means, hydration, nutrition and exercise.

Use your ventolin inhaler (assuming you have been diagnosed with a lung condition / respiratory problem) ?

Speak to your GP or Cessation Nurse about your anxiety symptoms. Anxiety symptom can be shortness of breath.

Check in with Quit or other Stop Smoking discussion groups.

Congratulations for staying smoke free since 14th October. Keep up the good work.

All the best Biddy

Hi Johnmm. I’ve heard many times people saying they have given up smoking and feel really bad. I know it’s very hard as I’ve given up smoking myself. The thing is you’ve done the hard work the first three weeks are the worst. I think now you have to look at the bigger picture. Two years after giving up your lungs are clear. It’s worth the fight and now you’ve got so far I’m sure you have the strength and determination to do it. If you go back to smoking you will go back to the guilt of knowing you shouldn’t be doing it. Believe me it’s a vicious circle of should I shouldn’t I. Had I been smoking when I’ve had a couple of really bad breathing episodes I probably wouldn’t be here now.

So keep going you can do it. Maybe your Dr can help with the effects you are feeling. Congratulations on what you’ve done so far. YOU CAN DO THIS.
