Saw the oxygen nurse for the first time as all other assessments were done my phone because of Covid. It was decided the pulsed oxygen I have been on (INOGEN), isn’t enough as even on the highest setting which gives 1.8litres of O2 my SAT’s drop to 75% with the slightest exertion. But when I was given continuous oxygen a blood test showed that I’m not getting rid of enough carbon dioxide, which can cause problems. It’s been decided that I am to use oxygen when moving, but not when I’m sitting or sleeping. It’s hoped that when moving I will blow off the CO2. Problem is without oxygen my SAT’s when stationary are still only 85%. So hard to know which is worse , low O2 or high CO2.
Sorry for long post.

I've had the same problem for at least 20 years, But was told by my consultant to use my bi pap more during the day & also at night with oxygen to clear the CO2 which touch wood it seems to do the trick
I’m on oxygen 24/7 and retain carbon dioxide. In January I was prescribed a bi-pap machine purely to expel this. I use it every night and it seems to have done the trick. Joy x.
Hi Joy, I'm being assessed for bipap but it's fallen by the wayside at the moment because of covid. Can I ask how bipap helps you and is your breathing any better. Thanks.
I don’t actually feel any benefit from the bi-pap machine, certainly no improvement in my breathing, in fact it’s got worse but I expect that’s a coincidence. I’ve been informed that my carbon dioxide level has dropped to a very safe level since using it though. Sorry I can’t say “it’s amazing” as, for me it isn’t. Joy x
