Can anyone explain this, I read about it on this site and it said you be on oxygen when you have this? I am on oxygen as and when, but I was very ill in January and put on bi pap to get rid of the carbon dioxide. I am now totally confused????

Carbon Dioxide Retainer
I had a carbon dioxide test today but don't retain it. I am on oxygen though. Being on oxygen can increase the CO2 for some people and the BIPAP machine helps to get rid of it.
How do they do a carbon dioxide test? Feel really ignorant about all this.
When they do the arterial gas bloods.eg when they take blood from the wrist, from the artery,a little painful I found! Hope this helps!
Love Wendells xx
Hi Wendells, Thanks for that, yes I have had quite a number of those and yes a little painful is an understatement! I can not understand why they can not do them in the ear all the time as it is so much easier and not as painful, going to ask next time. Love Sue
Yes have had machine tests for carbon dioxide retention which I have! Apparently I was told that my type of enthysema caused a retention of carbon dioxide in the bottom of the lungs!
When they test the amount of air expelled it shows up then if their is far less air coming out than inhaled.
This is the best explanation I can give you is that it is linked to enthysema.

Robert
