It can only get better, and it will Katie. Take care, jane

Sounds like you are doing well and heading in the right direction for recovery Katie, keep up the good work and come Christmas you will be chuffed I am sure :)

You will have good strong arms using those crutches - another bonus :)

Glad that you are making progress, Katie. Pottering at this stage is good and hopefully you can manage the basics of daily living and turn a blind eye to the rest. It's not surprising that you are low on energy. I think that is often how our body tells us to take it easy while it is recovering and healing. I'm sure that physio will guide you on when to lose the crutches when it's safe to do so.

General consensus is it may take me a little longer than others to regain full mobility but its looking good so far. at least each day is going forward so crossed fingers for no set backs. Thank you for support

I think that slow progress is the best way to a good recovery. I'm glad that so far so good. Bets wishes for your continued steady recovery xx

Another tick on your list of things to be done katieoxo. The operation is over, now the hard bit, gentle, regular exercise. I assume you have been given a list of exercises to do.. Each day should become easier. Next step.... The Crutches Race! Joking aside, I hope you start feeling easier soon.

Xxx

One of the porters offered me a wheelchair, if I felt the crutch was too much. :) I'm sure things will improve further with time thank you xx

Pleased to hear that you are moving around. Don't expect too much, too soon, remember the older we get the slower it is for us to heal. So take things slow and easy.

I never ever thought that i would wish anyone a crutch free christmas Katie,it sounds awful but you know what i mean :) take care young lady but i imagine the relief from the original pain you had before the op has made it all worthwhile.

Thanks Skis I am trying to make time to read everyones support today. The pains not gone yet but it is the muscles not the joint , which with physio should improve. Everything else seems to improve a little each day.

Trying hard to indulge myself but not easy to rest after each movement session so to speak. I'm just glad I have an ambulance to go to the Physio, don't want to end up falling and causing other problems. THank you x

Hello Katie,

So nice to hear from you. 😊 I have never used crutches, but can only imagine it is quite difficult and tiring. But you are up and about which is so very encouraging and important. Christmas is a ways away and I am sure by then you will be crutch free. Take good care of yourself.

I’m glad you’re trying hard. I’ve seen a couple of people that refuse to move and they’ve resulted in hardly being able to walk. My Husband had both his knees done and did amazingly. Like you he made up his mind it wasn’t going to stop him. I must have missed your post as I didn’t know you’d had your knee done. Well done you. I hope you can get well quickly. You’ll soon be on strictly giving them a run for their money. 😁😂

Hello Mavary, I have to get the dancing shoes out again soon so I can go for a short holiday break, next year is the aim now if coronavirus does not stop us again. Have a few special dates in the diary I hope to make. Always have to live with hope don't you think ? Now to see how Christmas goes. Stay well and safe xx

Mavary profile image
Mavary in reply tokatieoxo60

I’m dreading Christmas. I don’t buy things on line so it’s going to be difficult to get my Christmas shopping. My Son will get anything for me but I don’t know what I want unless I see it. If it’s bought on line it could be tacky when you get it.

Anyway I’m sure that you will go on your holiday next year. You sound pretty determined. I would love to go but for one I’ve got a cat and secondly I wouldn’t go on my own. When my Husband was here we were never in. My Sons said we were gypsies always travelling around🤣 since he’s been gone my Son has taken me out but it’s not the same. Xxx

katieoxo60 in reply toMavary

Well Mavary I am not buying presents for Christmas in fact think we will be looking at the changes this year as brought quite closely. My daughter has a person to feed her cats when on holiday, I dont have pets. The group I go on holiday with are all widows like ourselves . Ive been travelling with them for about 15 years now ,been a widow for 17yrs next week . Lots of people travel alone these days as specially ladies. have a think about it. Enjoy your weekend.

I've had to learn to walk again several times after knee ops, so know what you're going through. Keep doing the exercises regularly and put your mending leg up between times to help the swelling go down. All the best.

katieoxo60 profile image
katieoxo60 in reply toErgendl

Many thanks , my swelling has gone down a lot. Nice to talk to someone who has done the the run before. Stay well and safe x

Ergendl profile image

I ended up with a 'here we go again' mentality. The physio's exercises really do make a difference.

katieoxo60 profile image
katieoxo60 in reply toErgendl

Having had broken bones in the past I am quite used to physio need to get limbs back to normal. But many of the exercises are similar for arthritis ops,or broken limbs. Its the fatigue that is overtaking me most.

Ergendl profile image
Ergendl in reply tokatieoxo60

It's a major op and a shock to your body. That takes a lot of resources to repair, so allow yourself to be fatigued and rest when you need to. Wishing you well.

Suzie42 profile image

One day soon you will get up and walk without your crutches, you will have forgotten to use them, that's the time you know you are really on the mend. My husband just started doing that about 4 weeks after op and I kept having to say to him, wheres your crutches. The main thing to remember is to keep the pain under control as you cant exercise properly if in pain. Keep going you are nearly at the goal post. I reckon by the end of November the latest is when you will not need crutches! Well done xx

katieoxo60 profile image
katieoxo60

Yes Suzie42 It is a case of time, I am managing the pain but my knee is still very swollen when in use and gets stiff if I sit too long. But like you I am hoping to get there by late November in time for Christmas :) thank you for support.Take care &stay safe.
