MSG for novice copd-ers: Need a little exercise ......

... and dont know where to start?

I was just having a good look at the link Mypeppa put up yesterday; webmd.com/lung/copd/new...

The website also has some simple exercise even from the chair or bed to help get you started.

Somewhere it states even one minute a day is a start and you can slowly build it up. Good descriptions & photos too.

It's hard when you're feeling down, overweight and too stuck in a rut to get going - I know, it's taken the lovely people here & PR to get me going!

I was a bit of a blob before, not knowing how to help myself & then feeling more miserable. Too tired, brain not functioning properly & unable to motivate myself.

Now I understand the value of exercise & breathing well with copd etc to stay as healthy as possible to fight infection, have every intention to stay as fit & well as possible in the hope of slowing down the progression.

Hope you dont mind my re-posting posting this mypeppa.

I dont mean to preach but my PR is coming to an end and I've been through it with a group of people who are far worse than me and they dont seem to know much about their conditions or how to help themselves & never heard of BLF & dont want to know. (I've only mentioned it once). It's weird.

Have a lovely Sunday everyone. What are you up to?

I'm intermittantly taking it easy from a great family gathering yesterday at my daughter's (she's preggers, on crutches) & all the prep, cleaning and cooking. I think it was a great success but I'm knackered xxxxx

I love family gatherings. It was my sons wedding last weekend and I can honestly say it was one of the best days of my life. I too find it difficult to get motivated to exercise. I go through periods of doing it for a few days and then I might not feel so good and stop doing it until I get motivated again which can take a few weeks sometimes. I`m starting PR tomorrow, looking forward to it, my only concern is that I am going to make the most of it but when the course eventually finishes is if I get back to square one, sat on my own at home and not bothering to get off my bum!

Hi Susie, great news you are starting your PR tomorrow, you will enjoy it. When the course comes to an end ask about continuation classes or recommended exercise groups. Its so important to keep it going and the rewards are your fitness level will just keep improving over time as you continue, in addition you will be able to do so much more in your day and breathing will be greatly improved. All good wishes BC x

oh I do hope you get as much as I have. For me doing it early may have shown me a way to help save my lungs from getting much worse. I think it depends on who's taking the sessions. My 2 are just superb. They're completely with all of us every minute, showing how to do things properly plus explaining the physiological aspects.

Lovely re you son's wedding :D.

something I learnt Friday at PR was not to push it when you're unwell. Then from Lucky19 last week; not to beat your self up about it!

As BlackeyC says, there might be continuation sessions to go to afterwards. I only got 6 weeks because I'm mild I guess. The longer you do it the better as the habit will get into the brain (or something like that). x

Hi Peeg, I don't think there can be too many posts like this, if it just catches even one person's eye then it's well worth it. Good luck with your progress. Libby x

High peeg, Glad that you are feeling better with the P.R. course you have done, keep on with the exercises at home and even a short walk every day is good for you.

Today I've done a bit of shopping at Tesco now on my laptop and then I will have a short walk and maybe read a book a bit later on.

Peeg, I don't often say this but your post has everything. Nicely written and full of information, humour and family stuff. I thoroughly enjoyed reading it. Very well done.

aw, thank you Bobby, I'm blushing now. (I usually write as I think, jumbled). ;)

Its very good advice Peeg, I missed mypeppa post I will go look for it. I've been exercising since my PR over 9 years ago and have improved so much in fitness and health since then.

Glad you had a good day at the family gathering yesterday, a nice rest day for you today :)

I did my sit ups after cuppa in bed this morning (drained the cup first ;) )

I will be doing a spot of gardening shortly too :)

Happy Sunday to you and all

BC x.

PS the link doesn't reveal the exercises Peeg, can you find the page/s again?

ah, try the link from mypeppa's question. The main bit was on benefits of D3 but there were other links (or something) on the page so I had a peep. I'll go back & have a look. You probably know them all anyway, I was just thinking of novices like me.

All the sort of things I'd have found useful months ago.

Bloomin good for you on the exercise front. I hope I can keep it up. I've had horrible lethargic days in the past couple of weeks and had to drag myself there & force myself to do the exercises and felt so much better for it. Had I stayed home I'd have allowed the lethergy to keep me on the sofa and dog would have had half measures.

Whoops, sorry. I just tried it too & it got the right website but not the article mypeppa put up.

I can only suggest you go back to the D3 Question from yesterday & try it from there. I copied & pasted it from mypeppa's response/reply

PS I'm mild and managed a 4 minute slow jog (slog?) t'other day after having felt rubbish on & off for previous week.

I wouldn't have managed to breath through that 6 weeks ago. Pursed lips breathing.

I must, I must keep it up.
