Just an update on exacerbation

After 4 weeks of GP phone consultations, trying steroids and antibiotics Things were no better. Had a phone appointment with resp consultant and she thought I needed oxygen assessment and she would arrange. By Friday morning heard nothing and getting worse called resp nurses they said they could do nothing as they had not received a referral advised me to contact gp for her to do a referral and they would act. Messaged gp and got message back from receptionist saying doctor says you are now under consultant nothing she can do, refused me an appointment and told me to call consultant. Called consultant spoke to secretary he is off today has not yet put notes on my file told me to call nurses back. Called nurses who asked my sats (which dropped to 70 on moving). Told me to call ambulance as I needed face to face assessment. Did that, now in hospital on IV antibiotics and more steroids. No-one wanted to know. This has left me totally bewildered what to do in future. My resting oxygen is now a steady 88. Sorry for the long post but I just felt so helpless not knowing who to ask for help.

What a total disgrace to be sent round in circles like that. Diabolical! Hope you get the help you need and feel better soon. Xxx

I would imagine that now you are in hospital they can easily assess your oxygen requirements for the future and if deemed neccessary discharge you with an oxygen prescription. So as farcical as things now seem you are probably in the ideal setting to dictate your future respiratory care.

Good luck and i hope you stabilise quickly and are discharged soon.

So sorry to hear the run around you had. Hope your hospital stay helps get things sorted for you at last. I'm sure behind the scenes, someone will have been told off by the casualty staff, in a very nice way.

Unfortunately this seems to be happening more and more lately. I feel the same - never know who to call if help needed. Seems everyone is "very busy" and buck is passed from one to another. Glad you finally got sorted John.
