Bronchiectasis. A worrying time recently. I have been using a nebuliser and taking corbocisteine tablets for months now. It usually has been no problem. Lots of wheezing and clearing the sputum. But now it is not happening. Hardly anything moves even when I do my normal 45 minutes lung clearances. What does this mean? Any ideas please?

Sorry to hear your problems. I was exactly the same 7 years ago. I have bronchiectasis and other lung problems and make a lot of gunge. Carbocisteine has never worked for me and I usually use my nebs, steroids, antibiotics, drain over the bed and use my flutterball. I was in hospital twice within six months and they couldn't resolve it. My breathing was very bad, struggling to walk and my mucus was white and frothy not my usual thick and creamy. After struggling for many months without any improvement or getting rid of the gunge I had a bronchoscopy and washout. Although uncomfortable this helped and cleared the gunge and analysed the infection as Haemophilus Influenzae. I was prescribed Doxycycline which resolved it. I keep a rescue pack at home and pots and forms for microbiology. At the first sign of infection now I do a sample and whizz it off the hospital. The bug is usually Haemophilus so I start my Doxycycline. I hope this helps and you are soon feeling better. From one Cliff to another.
