I was in the same position on Sunday had 2 previous days of agony couldn’t bear it anymore and rung 111, as I was told they deal with dental emergency’s now and chose that option when I rang up and had an appointment with an emergency dentist the next morning. Had an X-ray and was given antibiotics and am now on the mend. I thought the exact same thing about ciprofloxacin but the dentists use specific medication. I have to have a tooth taken out in a couple of weeks but will gladly have it done to skip getting this infection again. Try 111 and you will hopefully be seen sooner. Good luck 🦷
My dentist has prescribed amoxicillin for me in the past for tooth abcesses. I'm not sure about the ciprofloxacin. Can you ask your pharmacist? Or as Patsy said try 111.
I hope you get some relief between now and Thursday. Tooth abcesses are excruciating and, having had them in the past have dreaded a repeat during the covid restrictions.
Best wishes xx
I think contacting 111 seems like a good idea. Good luck and hope you get some relief soon. Xxxxx
Oh no 😮 Best to see to it ASAP soul-123 . I don't know how to advise but I hope you get medical attention very soon. xx 👋
The same thing happened to me about a month ago, my face swelled up with infection under my tooth, my chest also flared up at the same time, so took my ciproflocacin, and it sorted chest and tooth infection out. Happy to say am now have my tooth sorted out.
My dentist would have prescribed antibiotics but as I was taking for chest, he left it at that.
Good luck with your tooth x
My prescription is 500mgs twice a day. See if your dentist will Wright you up a prescription for antibiotics. My chest flared up as well so it did sort out 2 problems x
I took Ciprofloxacin for nine months (1500 mg pd) after contracting pseudomonas in my spine for the second time following botched double spinal surgery in December 2006. It finally killed it off...so far anyway!
My dentist always says to take amoxicillin prior to a tooth extraction (presumably as a prophylactic against infection), so I reckon that would be the normal antibi of choice for existing tooth infections too.
What she doesn't know is that a lung specialist I consulted when I had a really bad infection with my bronchiectasis several years ago recommended amoxicillin+clavulanic acid. I had commented that amoxicillin seemed to me to be less effective for me than previously and he had commented 'ah right - at your age (about 60 then) you have probably taken a lot of antibiotics over your life and therefore a lot of plain amoxicillin; you are probably starting to gain immunity from amoxicillin sole, so I'm going to prescribe amoxicillin+clavulanic acid.
So I take amoxicillin+ clavulanic as a pre-extraction antibi.
If you can get a GP or pharmacist to prescribe that would be better than taking the recommendations from people like me!
In the past, I have several abscessed teeth, resulting in a root canal. Very painful. And it always seem that I can't get in to see a dentist for a day or two.
I also, have had several minor surgeries. Both with my teeth and the surgeries, the Dr.s have given me pain killers. I usually don't take them all (I don't like the idea of becoming addicted).
BUT, I never throw out the pills (until they expire). I keep them in case I have a painful problem with my teeth or anything else and can't get in to see my dentist or doctor right away. I even take the med with me when I travel, just in case.
