Hi can anyone give advice please my husband has COPD and bronchiectasis, he had a bronchoscopy on Friday and had 4 biopsies, taken , just sent him home and told him to wait for another scan although the 1st one was clear (6weeks ago also 2 X-rays have only shown he had a infection) Really worried and he’s in pain , he’s been taking ibuprofen and paracetamol but I’ve just read that maybe he shouldn’t be taking ibuprofen , please if anyone has any advice would be much appreciated..

Is there a local pharmacy open today that you could ring and ask for advice about the painkillers.

111 may help too.

Told he can take them , just worried now about biopsy results all they told him was his right airway was a mess and because he was still groggy from the sedation he didn’t ask anything and we’ve had no sleep worrying

I’m not medically qualified so consulting a doctor or pharmacist is a must, but it may be useful to you to know that the issue with brufen tends to be more for asthmatics and those prone to wheeze, where studies show that approximately 5% of patients may get bronchospasm as a result of NSAID use. It’s a relatively low percentage, but when you have approximately 5.4 million people in the U.K. with asthma, 5% in terms of numbers is quite high at around a quarter of a million people, hence the warning regarding its use for those with respiratory conditions. My daughter has cf (diffuse small airway disease and some bronch) but is absolutely fine with brufen and always has been so the docs are more than happy for her to have it where appropriate. If your husband has previously used ibuprofen since his diagnosis with no ill effect, my understanding is he’s likely fine to continue taking it unless he finds it’s making him breathless, tight or wheeze.
