Hello burbbank ,

Welcome to our friendly forum. I think almost everyone here has shortness of breath. So you are not alone. Many people get told they have anxiety too. And sometimes that is true. There are other factors to be considered. Here are some:

Heart issues like cardiomyopathy a problem with the heart muscles , heart failure (perhaps on the X-ray he has noted that your heart is not enlarged)?

Obesity, being overweight can definitely cause shortness of breath. Are you a healthy weight and do you get enough exercise?

Anaemia , a lack of healthy red blood cells can definitely cause shortness of breath too.

So my suggestion is if this persists keep seeking help and until you can rule out all the possibilities. Also, try to arrange for a full lung function test just to make sure your lungs are working properly.

It is very frustrating not to know what is going on. But I can assure you, for many of us a diagnosis took a very long time and others are still stuck in limbo.

Wishing you well.

hey thankyou so much for responding! yes i am healthy. in fact i do lift some weights before i have this problem, but i stopped recently due to this. and i dont think i can go to another doctor again this time because of the situation here due to the pandemic and i already used my savings on the check up and xray yesterday. in fact i am going to get my x ray result today. do that result see what my problem is or problem on my heart?

An x-ray can tell if your heart is enlarged. If your heart is not doing well, it will struggle to work effectively and need to work harder, as a consequence the muscles around your heart will thicken and the chambers widen (just like when you lift weights) and on an X-ray your heart will look enlarged. But a doctor can easily tell this if that's the case. And if it is he / she will order further investigation. I'm sorry you cannot get medical care without depleting your hard earned savings and I really hope everything turns out well.

Best wishes,

Cas 😊

Whilst you may not have lung issues you maybe asthmatic and dust, pollen and weather conditions can affect your ability to breathe normally. I agree you need to persist until you have a proper and accurate assessment. Some doctors don’t take lung conditions seriously enough. Also with the increase in mental health of the nation some doctors may take the easy and cheapest option.

Good luck with your quest

Have you got any inhalers to use when you get SOB? There are many different types available, which will help.

Hi burbank, if you have been checked out by the doctors and all is well then maybe you are over anxious and are hyperventilating. If this this the problem find a paper bag and breath in and out into the bag. You will slow your breathing and the anxiety will stop. Hope this helps. Take care, Maximonkey
