Broccoli and Brussels sprouts a cut above for blood vessel health.

New research has shown some of our least favourite vegetables could be the most beneficial when it comes to preventing advanced blood vessel disease.

Published in the British Journal of Nutrition the research has found higher consumption of cruciferous vegetables, such as broccoli, Brussels sprouts and cabbage, is associated with less extensive blood vessel disease in older women.

Using data from a cohort of 684 older Western Australian women recruited in 1998, researchers from ECU’s School of Medical and Health Sciences and The University of Western Australia found those with a diet comprising more cruciferous vegetables had a lower chance of having extensive build-up of calcium on their aorta, a key marker for structural blood vessel disease.

I do get fed up with broccoli florets and pureed sprouts, but here we go again. Veg without any roughage is reasonably dreadful. Oh for the day, when I could eat crunchy sprouts with bacon.

It’s great to eat all your greens, I personally love sprouts!

Just be consistent if your on Warfarin, if my INR is on the high side stuff myself with green veg

I love sprouts and so do my sheep. I just had sprouts (with pie and chips), peeled ones so probably last season's 🤔

Scruffy had dubious processed fish from Mr Felix,i think your sheep had a better deal but watch out for megga trumps in the near future. :)

Dubiously processed fish is possibly better than mechanically reconstituted meat in some cat “foods”. What is that anyway 🙀 I hope Scruffy and her stomach are none the worse for the mystery fish.

My sheep do love their turnips but they love sprouts even more, I had to pretty much crawl past on my stomach so they didn’t see I’d bought some otherwise I’d have had to share and those peeled sprouts only come in tiny bags.

(Ok so I did buy a second bag of sprouts thinking I’ll probably end up sharing anyway) 🐑

i am sure your sheepy friends will adapt to non peeled sprouts thus saving you a small fortune and giving them additional ruffage which will be good for their inner well being. :)
