Not sure that any of those meds cause tendon trouble. the one to look out for is ciprofloxacin....well known in fairly rare cases to cause Achilles tendon pain and rupture.
Yes thank you ..she has had Cipro in the past & it didn’t affect her so maybe totally unrelated.
Could be caused by extra exercise /walking in Lockdown with trainers that were rubbing a bit causing tendonitis (always good to get exercise but shame it seems to have caused a problem)
She’s risking a visit to her GP after weeks if shielding
Hi Rossiedavid, I was prescribed Ciprofloxacin and suffered terrible tendon pain. Since this episode my GP has noted an allergic reaction to this med on my file. I have not suffered this reaction with any other antibiotics so I cannot comment on the ones you mention, however, I think your daughter should get in touch with her doctor asap as it could be causing lasting damage. Good luck and I hope your daughter feels better soon. Maximonkey
Levafloxacin - antibi useful against pneumonia bacteria - also has tendonitis as a potential side effect, so maybe potential tendon problems applies to all the floxacins.
I doubt whether the painful ankles are related to that medication. Azithromycin can not be prescribed to anyone with a particular heart condition but that should have been checked out to start with. I understand that it can sometimes upset the stomach. I personally have experienced no side effects from either medication. I have been clear of any chest infection for 6 months now and this is I believe due to the Azithromycin.
5years since ciprofloxacin damaged my foot and leg. Pain recurs with antibiotics. Had co trimoxazole two weeks ago and have been very upset with pain up the sole of my foot and into my lower leg. Saw acupuncturist who gave treatment but thinks there is nerve damage which he cannot help. I have bronchial asthma hence the antibiotics so am between a rock and a hard place
The downside of medication is the unknown side affects until you get them, unfortunately .
My daughter is on 25 different meds for a kidney transplant & now for the last three years,Bronchiectasis as well.(Which could be as a result of one of her immunosuppressant drugs!)
She is 43 & has been ill since age 3 but battles on .
Hopefully this problem is unrelated but it’s the way it is with so much medication
So sorry for your daughter. So young to be so burdened. I too have bronchiectasis which may be the result of medication. Been shielding. Now 82 and live in a retirement complex. Try to make the best of things but this bug has made it hard for all of us. Your girl sounds like a very brave lady
Hi there, rossiedavid. Sorry it's taken me a while to reply to you, but I've had no experience of azithromycin affecting my tendons. I think it can affect some people in different ways, judging by what I've read on here.
