The safest electric cooker with home oxygen

I have been in hospital due to a fall, My sats have been low for ages and I left it too late to see to myself as my husband needed a lot of attention due to his dementia, I needed oxygen at first then was weaned off it. Any exertion and blood sats dropped to the high seventies,Now I am at home with a concentrator, I feel at my lowest ebb now as my husband died while I was away and, due to lockdown was unable to visit his Care Home and did not see him after February. I have has my gas cooker disconnected but asking members for advice on the safest electric cookerto buy.If I can cook the simplest thing I might get some appetite back. At the moment i m self funding carers to heat microwave meals as, with balance gone, I cannot take them out of the microwave one handed. I would be grateful for your help in this. PollyX

If you have a friend who could maybe look at an Argos catalogue on line. Also maybe pop to a local currys they often have wheelchairs by the door( or if you have a friend who could loan one to you. Ir maybe one of the walk along ones that you can sit on while you are in the shop looking at cookers keeping you safe with your balance. Hope you get what you need xx

I'm sorry that I can't help with regard to electric cookers I'm afraid. I don't know if your family are able to assist with this. I do hope that you find something to make your life easier with regard to meal preparation in the near future. Sometimes carers will accompany you to a retail outlet to look at options if you are able and safe to go out.

I did want to say too how sorry I am that your husband died while you were in hospital and also that you hadn't been able to see him for so long. You have been through such difficult times in recent months and I hope that things improve for you soon.

Thinking of you xx

You’re having a bad time. Have you asked friends family for advice on cookers ?youll

Need a few hints on using an electric cooker, as they are different from gas .

About your dizziness, have you tried a perching stool to use in the kitchen? The council gave me ome, not it didn’t suit. Look after yourself.

I'm desperately sorry to see you've lost you husband in such a tragic way. Its so sad and my heart goes out to you.

Electric cookers? So much to consider, the space available, funds available, the type of hob you want, all in one or separate oven & hob and even colour. You could have a look at a website like AO, or Curry's. I know AO have videos of their goods. I bought some kitchen ware from them. It does take absolutely ages just going through the specifications.

I'm wonderinb if Age Concern or similar organisation could advise you or know of volunteers who could come to help.

let us know how you get on. Peege xx

Oh polly what a sad time for you sending you lots of love and hugs.

Have you had an occupational assessment? There’s all sorts of equipment you can get to make life easier, I have a perch stool that I use if I need too and a trolley I can put things on to take things from the kitchen to the dining room.

All my pans now have two handles, I’m on my own a lot and have found Amazon do some little ones ideal for one. You can also get little baking trays, tho I have to confess my very favourite baking tray is a 1950’s grill pan!

With regard to electric coolers, it’s a case of looking through them all to see what’s suitable, write down a list of pros and cons. I’m reluctantly changing my gas hob to an electric one, I’ve burnt one to many tea towel...oops

Dear Polly,i am really saddend by you story.life can be so cruel at times, please accept my condolences on the loss of your husband and soul mateand in such tragic circumstances.

Can your daughters not act on your bhalf and enlist the help of the local social services occupational health team to offer support and guidance on daily living.

Somehow i think it was unneccassary to have had your gas cooker cooker disconnected and as long as you took appropraite care and used it whilst your oxygen was switched off for a short period of time it would not have been a safety hazard.

Perhaps if you can afford it the council can put you in touch with a meals on wheels service that operate locally which would negate the need to be struggling with a cooker.?

Simply just wishing you the best for the future.

Dear Polly

What a tough time you are having. I am sorry that your husband died and you have these other domestic problems to deal with on top of it all. Age concern may be able to help perhaps? Also try Alzheimers Society? They are very kind and resourceful. If you use internet then search for Which? They do product comparisons.

Really hope you get the help you need soon!

Love Janzo 💐💓xx

My condolences to you Polly4acre, what a terrible time this has been for you. You have been given some good advice and I think contacting social services is the first priority, they can help you with so much. Will be thinking of you x

Bye heck Polly4acre , you've been having a rough time, I hope things are getting better for you.. As regards a safe electric oven I can highly recommend this: lakeland.co.uk/31945/Standa... The Remoska Electric Cooker pan.

I bought mine some years ago for use in my campervan, it doesn't have a glass lid like the latest model, but I now use it all the time for various things. It can do anything that electric oven can do and the smaller version is in ideal for one person , especially a ham-fisted old dodderer like myself.

So sorry to hear about your husband. It must be hard not to have said goodbye.

I am on oxygen with a gas cooker which I don’t use. I bought a slow cooker and I’ve now got an air fryer and along with the micro wave find that I can cook most things safely. I did potato Hash in the slow cooker yesterday and it’s lovey. And none of the items were expensive. Much cheaper than investing in a new cooker.

Not what you're looking for?
