Can any one suggest whether there is any connection between urinary incontinence and Vitamin -D deficiency?

From personal experience, I can say that frequent urinary track infections can be a symptom of a too low level of Vitamin D. . I have not had one since my D levels returned to an acceptable level....J

Thks joyce74 and others for response. I am 72 and have been prescribed Vit-D 3 tab for 8 weeks along with other medicines for my incontinence symptom which raised my curiosity. Anyway thank all of you for your kind response.

Might I ask what strength and dose of vitamin D3 you have you been prescribed please? I have read it is supposed to help post menopausal women. I have veen taking vitamin D because my rheumatologist told me I was low and it might help but it's never been checked again since so no idea if it is still the same. I take high strength cranberry tablets every day just before bed for UTI's I was prescribed and took a low dose antibiotic for years until a urologist said to try a high strength cranberry tablet before bed and I have not had antibiotics since and that has to be 5 years ago.

Thanks

Thks for the query. I have been prescribed recently to take Cholecalciferol(VIT D3) 60k, with advice of one cap per month for 4 months. I have to wait for assessment. But I have read elsewhere that it also helps rheumatic patients though I have no idea about doses for your medicine.

Thank you for your message. I currently take 40k every day, I take it you have been prescribed to take one every day for 4 months ? Yes it is meant to help with rheumatic pain too.

Hello gillan TS, it is one cap per month for 4 mths , not a daily dose of one for 4 mths. As I understand deficiency of VIT-D3 creates many problems particularly at this matured age, one should arrange for checking of it atleast once in a year.

I really can honestly say I have never heard of Vitamin D3 being prescribed as one capsule once per month, it it usually prescribed as daily or weekly doses, maybe you have been prescribed it with something else like calcium, they are sometimes prescribed together. The NHS usually only test once yearly since they expect people to increase Vitamin D during the summer months, I currently reside in NE Scotland and it was given as the cause but I still showed deficient.

Hope you see some improvements.

Hi Princeasg

I use the following HB product and usually buy when on sale:

hollandandbarrett.com/shop/...

I was told to take it last thing before bed with water. The other thing I have also tried which is good if you ever feel the start if a UTI is D-mannose or this can also be taken daily.

I really know how you feel and it's awful trying to get without recurring UTI's especially when you are doing everything you are told to do.

For a UTI to occur, bacteria must adhere to and invade the lining of the bladder. Cranberries contain A-type proanthocyanidins (PACs), which interfere with the bacteria's ability to the bladder wall, reducing the likelihood of infection.
