Covid/masks

Am I the only one that is worried about being forced to wear a mask? I cannot wear one!

I have never been able to! At work or anywhere!

I can't breathe, now! With my illnesses, no chance!

Am I going to be arrested & beaten up?

I would be surprised if you would be made to wear a mask with breathing problems, other countries have made exemptions for this. The wearing of masks is primarily to protect others if you are infected. With a medical breathing problem you are extremely vulnerable to being infected, as a result you would be in no condition to go out whilst infected anyway.

Do you know anyone to help you put this image on your mobile phone, which you can show to others:

You are exempt if you have lung/breathing problems. Nobody will beat you up but it’s a good idea to do as 2greys suggests and get something printed off to show in stores.

Wishing you well. Xxxx

But don’t forget they are not to protect you, but to protect others ie if I wear a mask/covering that reduces the amount of droplets that I produce from passing to others.

If you have respiratory problems you are exempt by law from having to wear a mask on public transport, and shops. All you have to do is tell the staff you have health issues and are exempt. You haven't got to give more details than that.

I am trying to find out if a face shield would count instead of a mask.

You would have hoped that the government and media would be more helpful in publicising the exemption for some people. The BLF have been very helpful with the image to put on your phone. But I still feel nervous as some people will challenge and not wait for a response.

Thanks everyone! My question was not rhetorical, I have noticed a groundswell of countries sort of acting too independently, & am worried.......this virus, although it is only killing 0.5 -1.0% of the victims, it is still causing so much confusion and disruption around the western world, it will weaken us against migration. International travel is spreading this, international travel will be the biggest handicap to world development, as the "olde world" is /or settles behind the walls of isolation, " the haves & have nots" some of these drama series over the years have an atom of truth to them????

THE TWIGHLIGHT ZONE...? Lol

I too am unable to breath with a face covering of any description on and am more concerned by the treatment from the general public that I will receive. Although people say that this pandemic has brought us closer together I also think it has made people more judgemental than they were previously. You should take the view that you do not know peoples circumstances so keep out of their business until you are invited into it. In saying that I still have to brave the shops at some point over the next few days so we will see how it goes.

I think you are in Canada and there seems to be no system in place for Canadians with lung issues to prove to shop owners etc that they cannot wear a mask. It appears to be down to the "honour system". I think you are going to just explain and hopefully you won't get beat up or arrested. 😕😒

I struggle with a mask, so wear a long scarf looped about my face in Lawrence of Arabia fashion as if to keep out a sandstorm.

A shield is an option.

You will need follow NZ guidelines and really not anything UK advise,.

It's a good point about different countries. I live in Spain. About 90 % of the population are using masks. My wife, who has COPD, would be exempt. She does find masks a struggle, but with so many people using them it feels as if society would not be that understanding
