Re NEBULIZER

I am having a Nebulizer for brochiectasis. I know that you breathe in through a mouthpiece. Do you exhale through the nose, or back through the mouth? Hence, it is in and out only through only the mouth?

I’ve just been looking at Pete and so far as I can tell it’s all through the mouth. The vapour comes out through the opening on the mouthpiece. Hope that helps. Xxxxx

I think eather way will work. In through the mouth out through the nose is how i usually do it. but however you feel comfortable is best for you.

Some nebulisers have a cotton wool filter built in to them.

if you breathe out through your nose it bypasses that filter, allowing the nebulised antibiotic to enter the atmosphere.

This is not good for other people living in the same environment.

So the simple answer is through the mouthpiece.

Good luck with it.

Hey Skipwork,

I breathe in and out through my mouth when I use my nebuliser and when I have finished using it, I open my terrace doors because I can smell the Gentimicin in the air.

I hope that helps.

Take good care 🌈

They should have given you a filter attachment for your nebuliser if you are nebbing abs.

Hey C,

I have a filter which is like a Coton wool pad but the medication still smells.

I had a filter on I believe it was a tee attachment but it is so long ago that I could use nebbed abs I can’t really remember if there was residue odour.

What I do know is hypertonic causes a damn film on windows and surfaces and being salt it is a b to remove from the windows.

Yes, know what you mean and when it's not too cold outside, I nebulise with my terrace doors open anyway.

The things we have to do hey!!

Personally I just breath in and out through the mouthpiece when I am nebbing a bronchodilator. However if I am nebulising saline, I tend to breath out through the nose now and again as I feel the saline is cleansing, rightly or wrongly.

I nebulise Colomycin and saline solution. The vapour is inhaled through the mouthpiece, and as I exhale through my mouth the vapour comes out of the side of the T-piece and out along an exhaust tube which hangs out of a window. As people have said, it is very difficult to clean the drips that form from the window glass, but if there was no exhaust tube to hang out of the window (or a filter on the nebuliser) the exhaled vapour would contaminate things in the room.
