I have a nebuliser. I don't have COPD, I have Bronchiectasis and was given a nebuliser by the hospital to nebulise Colimycin (an anti-biotic) for Pseudomonas. I use it regularly to nebulise Saline solution. I find it very helpful. I also use a salt pipe.

It's a salt pipe for inhaling crystal salts through. I got mine from Amazon and the salts too. Mine is called a Salitair.

Pete had a nebuliser from the royal Brompton but no longer goes there. He has copd and sarcoidosis. He also bought one online and from Lidl. They do vary in price but the Pari site could be helpful.

You would need your doctor to prescribe nebules to use with any nebuliser.

Good luck to you. Xxx

Hi, I thought that if a consultant at the hospital you are being treated at would issue a nebulizer if it was thought important for your health. If you are already a patient of a consultant why havent you been issued with one already? Perhaps you could contact the consultants Secretary and explain your situation and breathing difficulty.

Out of interest, there are many nebulizing machines available on line at varying prices. I was given a machine when first diagnosed with bronchiectasis some 5 years ago and I return it each year for another one. Perhaps your own doctor can help until you get an appointment with a Consultant. Best of luck to you and I hope things get easier for you soon. Chrys

It was the consultant that prescribed mine, at first it was on loan from the hospital...but not portable ....so now I have my own .

Don’t buy one until you are prescribed the nebules....one gp in my practice doesn’t like me using one, if I need the nebuliser I should be checked over by a professional is the thought behind that .But I only use mine when I can’t get control of my breathing, and I know A andE is only five minutes away from my house if I need extra help.

But I have asthma and COPD .

But everyone is different, and use a nebuliser for different reasons.

The BLF have a helpline....03000 030 555.

If you continue to get blocked, consider contacting your surgery's PPG (Patient Participation Group), or make a complaint to the Practice Manager. But hopefully it won't come to that. All the best xx

My GP loaned one to me and I then once I realised how useful it was for me I bought my own online so I could return theirs to them for someone else to make use of.

They aren’t overly pricey but do make sure you get it serviced about once a year to ensure it is working properly. GP prescribes nebules on repeat as needed. I hope your GP or respiratory nurse can help you 🤞🏻

Not helpful at all! If you get any equipment from a specialist retailer you can get it minus VAT for a chronic condition. You just have to state you have a condition and they exempt for it 👍🏻

I use an Omron nebuliser with 0.09% saline which I bought from Amazon. Pulmonary nurse told me to use it when I am struggling, I find it very helpful at shifting mucus.

I have one on loan from the nnuh. They do request that I buy my own though every time it needs a service. I also had to take it in with me when I was an impatient. I have Bronchiectasis and use it to nebulise antibiotics. Speak to evergreen nebulisers they are very knowledgeable and offer a good service. You would need to get the meds on prescription. You also need the right nebuliser for the meds you are using. I’ve had bad experiences with two respiratory docs at Norwich but mine is good but he is a Bronchiectasis specialist.

Hi when I spoke to my GP about trying a nebuliser he said it was a good idea but unfortunately in Scotland I’d missed out just by a few weeks of getting one free on Nhs , so I’d have to buy my own I had no problem doing this . I went into eBay and got one for £27 and it lasted abut 2years . I then bought another same one still only £27 and then my mother in law was in hospital with her copd and she’d had hers for about 7 years the nurse who worked with her was great and sent her home with the one she was using in hospital . It was very quiet so I decided to buy same one it cost £130 but I was happy due to the noise reduction but both worked just as good , then it suddenly stopped working so I got the other cheaper one out from cupboard and it’s working well. The thing is I saw my m. In-law about a week after mine stopped working and hers had also stopped working properly eventually the bureau in her GP practice got it fixed for her, so sometimes it’s not about how much you pay for them that they will be garenteed o be the best it was a Phillips , the cheaper one was no make really. Iv found it so helpful especially since I started using the saline nebules 9 % , I still don’t actually know what the saline does but iv noticed an improvement especially in the phlegm i can get rid of it a lot easier in morning and early evening . I wish you all the best for your appointment today there is no harm in trying a nebuliser if it doesn’t help then you could say to the nurse/dr that they don’t need to provide the nebules if it doesn’t work but that you really want to try it. I’m sorry I’m not sure if your condition but I have copd and life long asthma . I hope you at least get the nebules it’s a start and just get your own nebuliser . Let us know how you get on . You should be a little pushy Reg this . Take care Shaz 🌹🌹

Nebulizers are not that expensive and can be bought online. They work very well against mucus.

My favorite is this Omron one-- amazon.co.uk/MicroAIR-Porta...

But there are other, cheaper ones. amazon.co.uk/Ultrasonic-Det...

Hi how are you doing , when I’m finding it difficult to breath it’s usually I can’t take a deep breath in only once iv managed to cough up a lot of phlegm can I breath easier although I just have to sit down and can’t do much , after taking uniphillin, and carbocisteen then going on the nebuliser can I start to breath in better as soon as I have taken all the meds it’s about 45 mys then I start to cough up a lot. But I also have problems with the feeling that I can’t breath out very well it’s kind of mixed and all so frightening . So many smells annoy me but only because they cause me to go into a coughing fit . Take care 🌹🌹

Hi sorry I didn’t reply sooner as iv not been able to come on the site much over the past few months. I’m 49 and it’s really changed my life for the worst over the past few years iv been getting worse , once a respiratory Dr tells you well youv got all the medication we can give so I won’t be seeing you again , I’ll leave you in the hands of your GP you just feel useless well I know iv felt this way many times . I wish I could say something positive to you but I just had such a bad experience even trying to get diagnosed . I was getting sicker while Drs were not helping much. I won’t go into it but iv written a few posts regarding my experience if you wanted to read them. If you have help and support you’ll do better, that’s great if you get into a trial I’d love to hear how you get on if you do get onto it. Iv never heard of this so it’s something new. I wish you all the best , take care 🌹🌹

Bless u it seems we get diagnosed given inhalers then told to get on with it we are not only fighting a progressive disease we are told to give up basically things we used to love to do including relationships how do i get to date someone when I struggle to breathe they will be queuing out the door my whole life has changed for the worse I will let u know about the trial wish me luck and im sorry any of us have this disease let alone not getting the help we should have i have a oxygen assessment tommorrow in this awful weather 😢

I have a boxed, nearly brand new nebulizer that I am giving away free of charge if that is any help to you. I would ask that you only buy a new pipe and mask for it (COVID reasons) it will not cost you any more. Would this interest you? Just trying to help someone out there??
