Thank you very much to everyone who commented on my mucus question. The end of the story was that a respiratory nurse told me this morning that it would be all right to take my over night refrigerator stored sample to my doctor's surgery. However, it was not all right because when I got there the receptionist told me that it had to go with a printed form which had to be scanned. She then gave me the necessary form to fill in and a fresh pot to collect the sample in. What do consultants know! Mine just told me to produce the sample and then take it to my GP surgery and ask them to send it to TB culture.

I’ve had this with my surgery. The lab refused to process my specimen because they didn’t like the shape of the pot my consultant had given me! They have also not sent the paperwork and was refused then. My hospital is paperless so every time I take one in I have to have a discussion with the receptionist to get it accepted. My consultant has given me a blood box so I can post it in if I have problems in the future but I don’t think the sample would be good by then. Good luck with your next one.
