Europe has seen an increase in weekly cases of Covid-19 for the first time in months as restrictions imposed to curb the spread of the virus are eased, the World Health Organization (WHO) says.
In 11 countries, which have not been named, accelerated transmission has led to "very significant" resurgences, said Regional Director Dr Hans Henri Kluge.
His warnings about the risk of resurgence had become reality, he said.
If left unchecked, he warned health systems would be "pushed to the brink".
I can quite well imagine from my letter it will be August 2021, when shielding ends, we might have a vaccine by then. I have just read that letter again, surreptitiously, it just says August 1st with no year attached. Another of their "get outs" I wonder?
I think I already posted somewhere that the letter is a masterpiece in not really committing itself to anything. Shielding is only paused not stopped for example. Have a gloomy feeling that could be back in place before we even get to August 1st.
I have the same gloomy feeling that you are right. I think that letter would have been better penned by Stanley Unwin though, at least it would have been entertaining and generated a laugh.
Typical how many yes has this been said about a second phase, buy as usual so many don't listen 😷 Bernadette xx xx 🌈
1,118 cases in last 24hrs, against 653 yesterday. Those are Government figures so true numbers will be higher. And that’s on a reduced no. of tests (167,000 against 232,000).
A guy from Brixton, interviewed on the news, said they were just having a good time & blamed police for the violence, for trying to break up the party. I’m quite scared about the potential for riots. I remember you saying the same thing a little while back
Saw that interview - what a moron - and he couldn't even answer the obvious question that if police shouldn't have attended their 'gathering' then does that mean the same for other 'gatherings'! Don't know where they find these idiots.
The 11 countries and territories are Armenia, Sweden, Moldova, North Macedonia, Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Albania, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Kyrgyzstan, Ukraine and Kosovo.
