I think the newer drugs are less harsh on the body than warfarin. Here are a couple of links you may be interested to read.
I know warfarin can cause excessive bleeding to the point of hospitalisation.

Run your concerns past your medical advisers, read the information leaflet that comes with the med and check out the comparisons on the above links.
I am sure your doctor would not have prescribed it if it was thought the med could not keep you safe.
