Was considerably surprised and more than a little horrified to get phone call from dentist's receptionist saying dentist could see me tomorrow. Whaaat? I spoke to my dentist about 10 days ago . Tooth was absolutely killing me and would have probably agreed to having my head cut off ta that point. Dentist explained at somewhat tiresome length the procedures they will have in place to protect me but alas ! Until the goverment gives the go ahead ...hands tied etc. ( wish they'd stayed that way. ) come away with vague, improbable idea I shall be met at door and sprayed head to foot with disinfectant a la Donald trump. ( imagination working overtime again ). But, that was then. Tooth has been well behaved, have plentiful supply of pain killers and antibiotics and was quite comfortable with idea that sometime would be able to get treatment. But tomorrow ! Reject this proposal with some heat. She reminds me rather reproachfully that I did ring as an emergency. True, but am not emergent now, cant possibly be hit with threat of dentist at such short notice ! Have to approach the thing gradually, for gods sake . Tell her firmly that ( what a pity ! ) I am shielding till end of month. She will ring again at end of month then ? weakly agree whilst reflecting didn't say which month. This time, say about 2023 looking good right now. Am still quivering at dread prospect lying in wait. Noooooooo!
Noooooooo!: Was considerably surprised... - Lung Conditions C...
Noooooooo!
Go on.... be brave ! π reward. π
Am not brave, at least not when it comes to dentists. Have broad yellow stripe running from top of head down to ankles....
Lol . I always find its kinder on my nerves to face up to things I worry about as even if it hurts its soon over. I wish u all the best π π
I hate dentists too and shake and quiver at the thought of it so I sympathise. But knowing teeth I know your toothache will return with a vengeance on a Friday evening and you will spend the weekend in agony kicking yourself for not going! I speak from dire experience! Hope I'm wrong. x
That made me smile Angelagone because guess where Peteβs going tomorrow? Yes, the dentist. He has a 3pm appointment to have his crown fixed so he can wear his denture again.
Everything has been very well explained so heβs going. I need a checkup but no rush. Pete is shielding but needs to be able to eat properly. Xxxxππ
I can understand your trepidation but I don't think they would have offered to see you if they weren't taking every possible precaution. Advance warning just gives you more time to worry about the prospect. Hope your tooth doesn't start giving you trouble again.
I'm not really worried about that, is very short distance to dentist as well, just at top of road. But I need quite alot of treatment and I am a wimp. π
I was part way through a course of extensive dental treatment when the lockdown hit and appointments were cancelled. I'm fortunate that so far none of my teeth are giving me a problem but having had tooth abcesses in the past I have fingers crossed that I stay trouble free. I'm not particularly soft but do find dental treatment an ordeal now and can relate to how hard people find it to deal with.
Best wishes for trouble free treatment when you do get there xx
Oh Angelagone , π₯
dentist visits are unpleasant. I even hate my cleaning sessions every nine weeks. But we all know we have to do it sooner or later. Sending you a *BIG HUG* for courage. Take care. xx π±πΌ
Much appreciated Cas, hugs back and an ear scratch for Chom.
I hope you don't live to regret this in the next couple of weeks. Toothache is nasty . My husbands been suffering too during lockdown and has eventually got antibiotics with the idea of a crown or extraction to follow if it doesn't calm. take care. Build up strength and remember the area will be numbed out Anita x
I'm at the dentist now currently awaiting an extraction, my temp was checked and given hand sanitizer. I also tried antibiotics and tramadol but was still in alot of pain as the inside of my tooth fell out. I'm hoping it's over quickly will let you no how it goes. I am also terrified of the dentist and normally have to be seated for treatment.
How did you get antibiotics? I currently have agonising toothache from a tooth that was supposed to be extracted in hospital as mainly only roots remaining but advised to leave be as long as not giving trouble because of complications with extraction. Now regretting decision, mostly at 3 in the morning π©
My daughter goes on Friday. She needs a root canal treatment for a big back molar which was causing a lot of pain until she took antibiotics. As she has a new born baby & is breastfeeding really needs it sorting.
Sounds well organised with an hr between patients, one patient at a time allowed in & screens etc. Hopefully all will be well afterwards.
Please don't leave it too long before you have it sorted... The least awful option. π€Take care!
Linda x
Root canal ? Shudder, shudder. All the best to your daughter x
Agree with your dentist that the moment you feel any pain you raise your hand & he stops immediately & tops up the analgesia. Even root canal work, which probably has the most pain potential, can be perfectly ok if the dentist keeps you topped up. It does take a long time tho & is quite tiring. But better that than risk several days of acute toothache, as hypercat54 says! Many years ago I had agonising toothache all over an Easter weekend ie four days of hell. Iβve never forgotten it & would rather have root canal work 10 times over than endure that again
I had a dry socket once and suffered excruciating pain over Christmas... x
Omg I had that a few years ago. Like you said, agonising.
Yes! Had never heard of it before. The first day the dentists was open I was first in the queue! x
I've got three teeth that need attention so I see a few appointments in my future. My dentists are very good, luckily. It would be very difficult at the moment as I've been having stomach problems and I really couldn't lie flat, problematic at the best of times. Hopefully be much better in a couple of weeks time. It never rains but it pours !
My teeth are crumbling. It's really becoming difficult to eat. Some are aching. I suppose eventually I'll have to see a dentist but I seem to have developed an irrational fear. The previous time I went, several years ago, my whole body went into some kind of spasm for the duration of the treatment. It was horrendous. I'm more afraid of it happening again than I am of the dental torture π¬
Please don't put off your visit for too long. My niece is a dental nurse working at an emergency dental clinic. She has sent me pictures of herself in her space suit. Her ppe is changed between patients, only one patient an hour and the surgery is cleaned between patients.
