As well as COPD I have a thyroid condition, which means I need 3 monthly blood tests. The next is due just after my shielding 12 weeks ends. I dont drive & am concerned re the journey to clinic. Suggestions, please!

Hi Liz I only have mine 6 monthly so if you feel ok I wouldn’t worry about waiting another month or so. I’ve been having these tests for years and as there’s a scale of results I’ve always been within it with minor fluctuations.

Your doctor sounds very conscientious if requesting them 3 monthly.

As with all these decisions it’s balancing the risk.

Take care

Hi! My thyroid is all over the place, despite having radio active iodine treatment - thus the 3 monthly tests. As if COPD wasnt enough!! Xx

Can they come to you? I don’t think shielding will be over anytime soon, the infection rate is still too high.

My husband needed a blood test. The nurse came to the house. She put gloves, apron and face mask on outside, stepped through the door, took bloods in the entrance with the door open, left then took her PPE off.

Could this be possible for you?

Hi Lizthebiz, I would contact the clinic or your doctor and express your concerns. See what they have to say.

Stay safe xxxx🌈

Thanks! I did phone them, & although the receptionist was sympathetic, they still want me to go to them. Fair enough - but I'm quite worried about the journey

Hi Lizthebiz I would imagine they would come to you especially as you are extremely vulnerable and have no means of transport. Give them a call. I hope you get on ok. Xx

Liz,my little sister is a phlebotomist, although working directly for the Nhs she does regular GP referal home visits to take blood samples, please enquire if your Gp can avail themselves of the service in your area and that would save putting yourself at risk by having to make that journey.

Best wishes Ski's and Scruff's
